But I thought I might ask the smart guys here for some leads maybe.

I have a potential tenant, in the exercise business. Looking at suspended wood floor over concrete. Looking for materials purchase and DIY a semi-permanent floor.

Names? Ideas? I googled around and I'm looking at $7,000 to $10,000 for just materials on these things.

Thanks for any help!

I'm involved with and compete in CrossFit competitions.

For my personal gym, I just use horse stall mats. They are perfect for what you need and relatively cheap if you have a Murdochs/Tractor Supply/Linton's Big R/etc style stores in your area.

If you want a suspended wood floor over the concrete just lay it out like you would frame a wall, with staggered cross supports on matching centers (like purlins), then sheet it. Then paint it and lay the horse stall mats on top.

You're looking at far less than half of your above quoted prices...the variables will be square footage and materials in your area.

Hi Paul,

By suspended do you mean floating floor? Or literally "suspended"? Is this outdoors or indoors application? How heavy is the equipment that will go on the floor?

Cheers!

No offense, but unless this is a 24hr fitness center or an equipment showroom, those SwissTrax won't hold up in a REAL gym.

In CrossFit style gyms, only free weights are used and they are DROPPED, not placed on the floor. It's all focused on the workout, not the corporate "atmosphere" of bright colors and flatscreen TVs on every wall, with full mirrors running the length of a wall.

Those other places are where bored housewives go to have strange guys stare at them while the hubby is at work.

AlchemyMetalworks,

How do you know this is a "crossedtit" gym? LOL. By the way, love your comment :

"Those other places are where bored housewives go to have strange guys stare at them while the hubby is at work."

No wonder I don't support my girl going to the "gym".

Paul where are you?

Call it an educated guess...the chains have the 24hr fitness center concept pretty much locked down so unless you want to be a franchise owner, the latest trend is CrossFit or ******** fitness places.

Alot cheaper to get into and the customer base is dedicated to actually attending, so better residuals if you plan on offering other services like nutrition or coaching.

Well, once upon a time I used to be one of those strangers staring at the housewives ;) hahaha

You know, interlocking tiles for garages should come in cooler designs...sick of the standard coin and faux diamond plate. How about some camouflage, abstract patterns, animal patterns....give us something new dammit!
