hear me out guys!!

ive got a quad for racing and i also have a spare 45/50 liter air tank (13 gal us) and well i had the idea of putting the tank on the front with an air line for last minute tyre inflations and such like, maybe the odd air tool for short burts in parc ferme.

itll be filled with the compressor in the van and plan is to always have a full tank (my plumbing hopefully not leaking) @145ish psi (10bar)

how long do you think i could run a 1/2 impact or in experience how much tyre inflation could i get from 1 full tank. thinking of a quick tyre change and before the battery ideas are banded about this is comming from england so theres a more than likely chance of rain and leaving an electric gun out will 1 get stollen or 2 wrecked with the weather. (got to be prepared for all conditions!)

i understand air tools will drain it quick!! and obviously tyre sizes and air capacities are all different (195/50/15-205/50/15 size tyres i run)
would it be too far fetched to get about 8psi increase in 4 tyres from that tank? 22-30psi? i understand it wont have a supply to the tank (unless anyone has any ideas about a 12v supply from the quad?) and air tools and tyre inflation at the same time is asking too much.

TIA

we would call that an air pig . forget using an impact on it. won't work more than a few seconds . for tire inflation it will give you some pressure to get you out of a pinch.
I would look into a good quality 12v air pump .

It will raise 4 tires that much, its not for an air gun. I made a shelf just for mine to keep it out of the way.

well i spose it answers the air tools option, but still viable for inflation

thanks for the heads up, im now off to go build a quick release for it... somehow ?!

you want to mount this on the quad? and fill from a separate compressor?

pretty common, should not have any issues filling tires. my 8lb can fell 4 semi-flat tires prettyeasily, I usually fill it to around 100psi or so.

forget air tools, though I have run air nailers off them for a while.

take a look at portable air tanks they sell everywhere and you'll see how they are setup.

you need an air hose, I usually use a quick connect, but you can plumb the hose direct.

you need a shut off so it doesn't drain from a leaky hose fitting.

and you need a way to fill it. (and should have a safety release but up to you).

common way is to use a tee, put a shutoff and hose on one side, and a guage and schraeder valve for filling on the other.

tractor supply and most farm stores sells a 2-pack of brass inflater valves in 1/4" npt for about $5 for just **** a purpose...

i have some air tanks off an old DAF truck, they are in perfect condition, im going to mount 1 under the van and 1 on the quad.

was thinking along the same lines as sberry has, they wont exceed max pressure as trucks run at 10 bar and so does my compressor so even with full charge its within their capabilities, was going to use a 3/8 coil hose to fill and use it, ball valve on the tank and a seperate one on the compressor so it can be used as extra storage when not on the quad. also quick connect on there as well.

I have to admit I'd be nervous about putting a compressed air tank on the front of a quad used in a race...seems kind of like driving around the track with a bomb strapped to your nose.

maybe i should have been more explicit, i race cars, the quad is a support vehicle for when im in the control loading area. also i wont be riding the quad and driving the car, one of my team will be riding the quad when i drive the car, just to clear that up before any confusion happens there.

Yea I'd use like a small bottle of high pressure nitrogen and a regulator. Last way longer than 1.73 cubic feet (13 gallons) of air at 10 bar. If I did my math right it would empty in 5 minutes at 5 cfm starting at 145 psi. Empty like zero. So realistically you couldn't get more than maybe a minute out of it before it stalled.
