Amish crew started our new barn last friday and finished it yesterday. Its 36x48 with 16' plate and 12x14 overhead doors. Doors will be installed in a few days. Its too cold in OH to pour the porch and garage floor and install the stone veneer. Those will have to wait until the spring.

love the design and do you have any close up shots of the cupola.

I don't but plan to get some shots with my drone so will post up later

Looks great. Are the garage doors going to match the attached garage door?

The garage doors will be carriage style doors with the black iron hardware and windows to match the doors on our house. The garage door installer is off until the 2nd so he will install the doors then.

the two man doors seem kind of weird but a fence will separate the two doors so that there is access from inside and outside of the fence.

Damn that looks good. Love the covered porch area, haven't seen that before but it really sets the shop apart!

Good Looking building!

Those amish are are called Mennonite most likely.

Not Mennonite regular Amish. They are allowed to use cell phones and power tools to earn a living but cannot use them at home. At the end of their work day the power tools get locked in their trailer. All their power tools at home run on air from a steam powered compressor.

The Amish I bought cabinets from were off the grid. They used a diesel generator to power their cabinet shop. Even pulled power for their home next door during the day while shop was running. After that gas lights etc. always wondered though about the cell phones and fax machines. He even has email and a Facebook page as well as a website. He has the non Amish doing all that. Has a company that bought his truck and 30 foot trailer and he leases it back from them. When out on jobs doing installs he uses power off the grid so who knows.

The Illinois Amish we are working with on our new house use power tools for work, not for home. The also have a phone that you need to leave a message and they will call you back. I saw an add in one of their local paper that was for a voice mail only service. The email is managed by a company that prints the messages out an delivers they to the business. They also used power equipment in the fields, but it has to be moved via horse power.

Nice looking bldg and I believe you will get some great use out of it.

As long as the saw is powered by a generator or airtools get their air from a gas powered compressor they are good with it. The JLG lift needs to have the rubber tires replaced with steel wheels too.

Words have meaning. Without meaning how do you know if its a table when they call it a chair? All over America people are misusing our language. For example 'pre-drilling' a hole You can drill a hole, you can not 'pre-drill' a hole just like you can plan a funeral but can not 'pre-plan' anything. Lets add 'covered porch' and 'front windshield'

A barn is an agricultural building usually located on farms. In the North American area, a barn refers to structures that house livestock, including cattle and horses.

I dont think a garage even needs a description but ...A residential garage is a walled, roofed structure for storing a vehicle or vehicles that is part of or attached to a home, or which is an associated outbuilding

It was a different crew that built the house but same company. The company is managed by an ex carpenter who now just manages 7 crews. I was purchasing manager of a large national homebuilder for 15 years so I general contracted the house and barn.

The house has a 3 car garage. Two car side entry and one car front entry. We didn't want the look of a 3 car sticking way out from the house so that is why we did the 1 car front. I modified the plans and made the 2 car garage 28feet wide and 24 feet deep. The one car garage is 12ft wide and 28 feet deep. I put in oversized doors too the 2 car door is 18x8 and the 1 car door is 9x8 I love the extra room of the larger doors.
