Hello from Illinois.

Dream garage is in the future plan, but not in the current budget, so I did the next best thing; replaced the 8x10 garden shed with a 12x16.
It's built on a 4.5yd slab and I used full 8' studs for additional ceiling height.

It was originally intended to store the yard equipment, but there's room for a good-sized workbench and more.
I barely got it weather-tight before winter came along, so I'm looking forward to finishing the inside and the landscaping when the warm weather returns.

This is a great message board with plenty of ideas and advice.

64: awesome looking shed/shop. do you have any pictures of the inside to share and maybe a few of the before and during construction process? also are you planning on building a ramp for that little garage door and is it for a riding mower or do tell?

welcome to our group and just ask if you have any questions and we'll try to help.

drivesitfar, it took a while, but I finally got around to putting together some photos of the building process.
Winter came along before I could fix-up the landscape, but yes, there will be a brick ramp to the garage door.
I have to strategically make room for a riding mower, walk-behind mower, wheelbarrow, 42" lawn sweeper, chipper/shredder, shovels/rakes and still leave room for a workbench area. I think I can cram it all in there.

Here's the old 8x10 shed

Stakes to outline the new 12x16

Since the yard was going to get torn-up, decided to divert the sump pump outlet and downspouts from the house through draintile to a catch basin

2ft deep x ~50ft long trench, hand-dug

Catch basin buried deep

Next door neighbor wanted my old shed. He moved it with an electric winch

Cleared building site

Always easy to find helpers when you let them play with the big kid toys

Concrete forms

Compacted gravel in the middle, 12"wide x 12"deep perimeter

Gravel base around the perimeter and wire mesh were added before pouring

Ready-mix truck arrived hours late. Started pouring with just an hour of daylight remaining

Finally finished the concrete hours after dark

Walls were built on the driveway the day after the slab was poured. The next weekend, a crew of relatives helped with the heavy work. It saved a lot of time having the walls pre-built

There's Dad, still working hard at age 73. He was the only pro carpenter working on the shed, but he put-up with us reasonably-capable amateurs pretty well

New 12x16 next to the old 8x10

Lots of yard repair to be done this spring

Thanks for the compliments.
I have some lumber, yard furniture and lawn equipment stored in there for the winter. When the weather warms-up, I'll build some shelves and arrange all of the items that are to be hung up to make good use of the space.

I was frustrated that I couldn't finish the inside before winter, but it has worked-out well to have a couple of months to look over the forum posts and see how others have utilized their storage space. I had a good idea of how I wanted it arranged, but the discussions and photos on this site have really helped in the planning.
