....as an intro, we make stuff, usually, vehicles, based on commercials

But we are now building ambulances.

They come to use like this:

Anyway, long story short, we make all the parts, panels etc etc, but we one thing we can't do -yet - is paint them, so we have that sub'ed out at the moment to a refinisher - who does a great job, btw......

But, it's a lot of to-ing and fro-ing, so we're building our own Low-Bake Oven, to take trucks.....

Why is this a good thing ? Ah....that's easy........'cos in my garage at home, I have THIS which looks like THIS......needing a bit of TLC. I've started the tear-down already......

So far, the booth looks like this, and here's some gear to go in it...oh, and it's -2 deg today outside........

ok, update from today's efforts - assembled the roof plenum from about 16:30 on, outside, under lights !

Here's the result:

Internal dims of the booth are 8m x 5m x ....5m? high.....

Thing is though, how to lift, once assembled, without it buckling to pieces.....so, armed with spare 400mm x 100mm x 12000mm Glulam we have in stock (for houses, etc..), we strapped to of them in a number of locations across the whole thing, thus:

Then, put a spreader bar across the glulam, and gently gently, get it off the ground. We left it on stands for tonight, and plan to wire and fit the light units with unit at ground level, before hoiking it up on the roof tomorrow.

It's a big ****** - look at the size of one of us, standing beside it, just as we wrapped up this evening, just before 9. Frickin' cold, too !

ok, an update.

Going a bit slower the last two days - haven't spent full time at it, due to pressure of the 'day job', but we're back on track as of this eve, now awaiting materials to finish ext cladding.

First, though, I had to assemble the floor plenum and frame.......crumbs, for such a 'simple' job, it took hours. Assembling, fitting, levelling/lining. Oh and the floor of the pit had water in it. At 3 deg ambient. Lovely

..the MD finished fitting all the light units, and wiring them up -saves doing it from the top of scaffold, and then we lifted the whole thing up and onto the walls, in one go

The supplier's fitter has the bulk of the equipment and control panel now fitted, waiting for us to finish the building

I've ordered the double glazing for the door units (we're making the doors ourselves), so that's another thing to do.......
