Today I took my wife to a tag sale, where they sell off the entire contents of the home. Not expecting to find much in the way of tools I found this small package of cold chisels and I new immediately that they were made in my home state of "Ahia" as they say.

Some background information will help you; the company started out as the Vanadium tool co. 1945 -1969 in Athens, Ohio. They were bought out by Alexander T. Topping VP. of S-K Wayne in 1969; The name changed to Vanadium Tool Corp.

Being that I live in Central Ohio I do run across a lot of their tools from time to time and I thought you might enjoy the short History of their company.

Not a great price but I thought a fair price of $1.00 per cold chisel, funny thing every man passed them up.:dunno:

I have an offset slot head screwdriver made by the Vanadium Tool Co.

The screwdriver is almost identical to some that were sold up until recently under the Blackhawk brand by Stanley.

I've also seen the same design offset screwdrivers labelled Duro-Chrome.

I'm not sure whether the Vanadium Tool Co. was the OEM for the screwdrivers, but the chrome finish matches the Vanadium Tool Co. wrenches.

Some of the VTC combination wrenches look similar to some older MAC wrenches. I sort of wonder if VTC was an OEM for MAC or Stanley, or whether Stanley may have acquired some of the tooling from VTC.

Interesting because Mac was made in Sabina in the Southwest part of Ohio and Vanadium was made in the Southeast part of the State of Ohio.

+1 VTC does look like the Mac of that era. Mac's been that style since long before Stanley had anything to do with them though. I always thought either Mac or Cornwell made Vanadium Tool Co. because of the V-notch but I never really compared them in hand. Just a shared design or engineering?
