So this is in the kitchen, not the garage. But I suspect someone on here has already dealt with this issue. We have a Jenn Air slide in oven with a downdraft exhaust. Recently the vent fan will only operate on low speed after you push the power button through a low, high and off cycle then push it again. How do I determine where the issue is? Power button? Link or fuse? Blower motor? I am very limited in my knowledge of electronics. I do have a multimeter. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I don't understand. You have diagnosed the problem. It's not the switch (maybe, see below) as you can scroll through the speeds to get the fan working. If the fan is not gummed up as @walta suggested, it's a control issue. What does Google say? Get a new control board? For me, if that's the consensus, I do that.

BTW, it's not the fuse if the fan runs at all. One last thought: I have seen switches gummed up with cooking grease especially at the cooktop level. Try flooding it with contact cleaner or even WD40 and push it a bunch of times. I would turn off the breaker when I did this or you may have a little surprise fire that sorta pops and goes away. It will scare you a bit.

I say this because you may be making contact by using the switch a few times and it finally has continuity after activity. Then it sits and the grease stops it again until moved. If that doesn't work, I have suggested that people look for used or rebuilt boards on the bay. Sellers fix these and sell them with exchange. Pretty good savings and they offer a warranty.

Thanks Zeke. I have visually checked the control panel and see nothing burned out on it or gumming it up. So I guess the next thing is to pull the motor from under the stove and check it for grease. The filter was in pretty bad shape so that may be it.

Would you consider answering the question I asked in post number two.
My original post stated "Recently the vent fan will only operate on low speed after you push the power button through a low, high and off cycle then push it again. " So no, it doesn't start on the high position. It come on in the low position and only runs at low speed even if I press the power button to the high position. Hope that answers your question.

So, the low and off settings work as intended but when you select medium or high the fan continues to run at the low speed?

Will you please post the wiring diagram for your unit?

Low and off do not work as intended. Otherwise they would come on during the first time I cycle through the settings. Instead the low setting works as I start pressing the button the second time . Will see if I can find the diagram.
