So, Ryobi recently recalled their P113 yellow chargers that charge the lithium or the ni cad 18v one plus batteries as potentially starting a fire and also recalled some of their first gen newer lithium + pull size 4amp hour batteries too. Well this is bad enough but here is more you should know:

I have had a number of both 18v ni cad AND 18v lithium full size batteries die on me prematurely at 1 or 2 years from new. I was always using the above charger because that is the one I had. I just picked up another tool yesterday at BF with a newer P118 black charger. Well, one 18v full size lithium battery that stopped being able to charge a year back I took and tried in this new P118 just to see what would happen and it started charging just fine! When it was done a couple hours later, I put it in my tool and away it went! Full power like it used to have!

Anyone with "bad" batteries that were using the yellow P113 chargers should try charging these again in a newer charger. P118 is a good one but there are a few other choices too. Some of them might still become good again. Apparently the P113 charger is junk, complete junk, and dangerous too. Hope this helps some and not likely something Ryobi is going to otherwise tell you. - Paul

I can also now confirm several of my older ni cad full size 18 volt also will charge much better on the new charger than the P113 yellow one. I'm going to do the P113 recall replacement thing, but I'm not planning on using that one again unless in a jam. I noticed P118 charges about twice as slow as the P113 did. I don't care about that but this seems to be very good for the batteries. - Paul
