I posted this on another board but there isn't as much traffic on it as there is here.
I bought this gem about 35 or 40 years ago for a job and haven't used it since. Now for the life of me I can't remember what it's intent is. Overall it's about 10" long, there's a 5/16 hex and the looped shaft has a stop so it can't be over 'torqued'. No manufacturer's name or COO, only 2 patent numbers which I googled but it only gave me the dates of the patent no description.
Any idea's?

It is a simple torquewrench for a specific job, but that is all I can remember too. I think I saw an equivalent in a KD catalog, probably around 1970.

Don't just run the patents on regular Google...put them in here:

http://www.google.com/advanced_patent_search

and you will get to full PDF's of patent and drawing...but I bet the patents will cover only the basic design and not assign a specific application.
Will go look in the KD archve tonight.

This is a torque wrench for the side terminal battery bolts. Very common when these batteries first appeared.

Yup! As soon as I read this it rang a bell. And now I also remember why I never used it again, PITA. Standard wrench worked better!

I did a search on freepatentsonline.com as Austin suggested and the descriptions came up as Torque Wrench for both patent numbers. #'s are 3283620 and 3485117.

Thanks scooter, I knew someone on this board would come through.
