Could saved a lot of grief with the title saying " flank drive worked well". The title used seems designed to stir things up IMO.

I wonder what kind of snarky comments my tool box would generate. I tossed my Snap on flare wrenches on top of my Williams combos and $10 no name specials this afternoon and closed the drawer. None of them broke today, and neither did any of my GW, SK or HF tools either, shocking.

Ding ding ding!! Although that may have been divisive, too. Taking a stance is a pitfall on the internet where people attack with a feeling of invincibility thanks to their anonymity. But yeah, lesson learned. Back to lurking...

Just another cheapskate on a mission to save people from themselves. The feeling of superiority boosts his self esteem. Guys like him think they're smarter than everyone else and can't seem to stop repeating themselves endlessly.

Yup you nailed it.. Although I think my UPS driver might disagree about the cheapskate part.. I just choose to spend my money on different things.. But hey - we just have a different vision of what enjoyment is.

Just to add, cant help but take notice to your calling me a cheapskate and then saying I'm the one with the superiority complex that needs some boost in self esteem. Kinda the pot calling the kettle black don't ya think?

Replaced an engine this weekend, FD+ let me down several times. I own them, so i'm not getting rid of them, but I did "upgrade" to these from the regular snapon spanners and what a disappointment. I've said it before, its a gimmick. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yeah, I'm curious too. If you are swapping engines, you probably know what you are doing. So was it a size thing? I know some people just don't like the beam shapes.

Threads like these can just be simplified into "my $35 wrench outperformed a $3 wrench" not really something that commands much praise when u put it like that..
This is my point too.
other "saviors" in the wrench world that will perform as good or better for probably half the cost or even less.
There could be more argument in favor of the top of the line if it was only 1/2 or a bit less but we have numbers like 20 to 1 and maybe more. A Snap is good, maybe even the best but is it 20 times as good as a full polish Stanley pro?

I think we all know there is a point of diminishing returns... is it 20x better, NO. However what's the question? Best or Best Value?

I actually like when people comment good and bad about different tools. Contrary to what some people think, I find it helpful to know what others think about specific products.

Please don't let the negative comments of some stop you from voicing your opinions that you feel may help others. I for one can weed through the comments and still see value in the initial thread and the helpful comments. So don't just lurk because the negative nellies of the net win that way. :D

I'm pretty much a home tool user, with a fairly aggressive muscle car fix it hobby. There are actually a couple things I don't skimp on because of being burned by inferior tools before.

Hex bits
TORX Bits
Screwdrivers
Pliers
Pry bars/ladysfoot/punches/chisels.

Home user can pretty much get away with box store brands of the rest of the stuff in my opinion but a soft tip screwdriver or snapping torx bit is infuriating!!!!

I appreciate differing opinions, and the posts where someone shares that Snap On hasn't performed better than their Wright wrenches is great! The problem I have is all the "wow, the original poster is so stupid for using an open end wrench. What an idiot for not using (insert alternate method here)." I don't know what's going through people's minds when they do that kind of thing. It doesn't help the discussion, and is insulting. Just not how I was raised, I guess.

I don't believe much SnapOn is necessary for a weekend mechanic, although there are a few items which SnapOn is probably worth it, even for guys like me.

I have a very small amount of SnapOn but I feel pride in the few SnapOn items I do have. The quality of SnapOn square drive literally inspires me to do projects. When you pick up a SnapOn ratchet, it feels like a tool that will still be doing work in 200 years. It's a treat to work with such excellent quality tools.

Honestly the only time I use the open end is for alignments and then it's worth the money because they don't spread. Fwiw I've never used wright grip or anything like that. I brought mine off the truck but of course didn't pay retail. I get the sae free as well

I was a tech for 16 years. I don't like the FD+ because if something is rusted, in this case, a torch is going to be necessary. Fancy open ends won't get it done. If a bolt is already stripped, you have more of a fighting chance with a 6 pt socket or a smaller wrench size. Sae on a metric bolt may fit better if rusted/stripped. Then the teeth get stuck on fasteners that are in good condition sometimes to the point of getting out a hammer. Bottom line is for the 5% of the time it may actually help, you have aggravation the other 95%.
