Ok, maybe not a 'drill press' but good grief, that is one seriously awesome tool

If I ever win the lottery, I'm going to buy one of these and stick it in my garage, just because it would be the meanest piece of equipment in a 10 mile radius. I wonder what's the largest hole you could drill with this thing? It looks like it could drill through the center of the earth with a long enough bit.

Radial Arm Drill Press. I went to College at Cal Poly SLO, our Dept. shops (spent more time in the shop than in classes, that's why it took me so long) had at one time three. They were older, and a little smaller, but they were great! Load material with a forklift on it, the head moves easily, numerous feed rates, and auto feed. Very precise and tight. I had to drill some 2" holes through some 3" material, I was able to set it up and walk away while it did the work. I seemed to use it a lot.

They sold one for too cheap, and I was trying to figure out how to get it home. :lol_hitti One of those is on my "Dream" shop list.

Wow. No safety glasses, loose unbuttoned sleeves, and wearing gloves on a drillpress. That operator is one certified *******.

where are his safety glasses!?!?!

Plus he doesn't even wait for it to stop before grabbing the speed adjustment knob with his gloved hand, which is IMMEDIATELY NEXT TO the spindle.

The whole machine seems to have moronic ergonomics. He's like 4" from the bottom of travel and he has to reach all the way over the part to control the machine. What do you do when it's up another 2'?

The emergency stop is also up there.

The Germans who designed that were clearly drunk.

To paraphrase Mr. Dundee, "That's not a drill press, this is a drill press":

Pretty common machine in a well equipped shop. A guy had one about that size at a shop I bought a bunch of stuff out of a year or so back - cheap. I just couldn't justify bringing it home with me. I think it weighed about 7,000 lbs.
