NP241D Transfer case filler plug removal

Needing an 8pt male wrench, 10mm? To remove filler/drain plugs in transfer case. 96 Dodge 4WD 2500 5.9 12V Cummins. Thanks

Are you sure it doesn't take a 3/8 ratchet?

Also make sure you can remove the fill plug before draining it.

I agree with the post above, especially removing the fill plug first. You make that mistake once and you remember forever.

Use a 3/8" breaker bar. Drop fill plug FIRST!!! BTDT

The corners look to be more than 90*. Not sure if that'd be a good idea to use a 4 point tool in there, especially if it's been in there since 1996. Can you get a socket over the external hex of the plug?

Odd, as my 98 has an allen plug.

Over I changed the ATF in my trucks TC (also a 1996 2500 4X4 CTD)...just used a ratchet. Both plugs came out easy.

Over the years I have made tools to do what you are doing by finding a bolt head that fits the plug and then putting a nut on the bolt weld it up and you have a new tool. Fixed several different ones over the years for different transmissions and transfer cases.

Looks like an outside hex. Use that. It is 30mm on my old 87 Dodge withNP208. Probably similar on yours.

it looks like an 8 point male internal and probably a 24mm or 15/16 external hex you can use either

i just use the external hex on these you should be able to get a short socket on there
