In on one!…… Thanks!

BTW! I like the steel ones better than the aluminum, because "IF" one drops or decides to hide in a nook or crannie I can grab it with a magnet.
Also in on one and I also ordered this one because I don't have time for cases so I'll just store on this instead (claims stainless but I've only ever seen aluminum); we'll see how it is with 1 review:

Come to think of it that case on the one we ordered is not half bad because it has an embossed labeled space for each. Wish they had blow molded threaded pegs so you could just split in half and hang. As is, you can split in half and store in a drawer if you have the space. Ooh, come to think of it, you could buy a bunch of these mags, superglue to the bottom of each space and then you could hang:

Aluminum so rust resistant but not strip resistant

Here's another in steel:

Just got this. The case may be ok but the coating on these and labeling isn't great. The laser etching is subpar and it's barely legible on the zinc coated ones because there is no contrast. The whole point of ID'ing is to ID. They lack any rust inhibitor so I can notice some corrosion starting. On the zinc ones it's a very light coat and I can see it failing already. I'll check the threads against the other thread checker when it gets here but maybe it's best to get some w/a stamped ID and/or engrave it on there yourself.

Update:
just got the 2nd thread checker (non detachable) and it's beautifully made. Looks like powder coated or cerakoated steel (edit: checked with magnet, likely it's anodized aluminum but feels heavy due to studs). The studs are what's stainless.

I checked the cheapo standoffs and noticed two issues, the 3/8's-16 & 10mmx1.5 were switched around. I checked with a thread gauge to confirm that it wasn't the new thread checker and it's indeed the cheapo one that' switched. No big deal, since at least I got a complete set.

Most of them went in by hand on both male and female though a few took more effort and would not bottom completely. The tool does the job regardless.
I blame the threads on the cheapo one, not the new one.

I checked the rest of the thread I'm missing on the new checker w/a gauge and they were all fine. Only downside is it's fairly long so make sure you have the wall/shelf space to hang it.

What are you guys opinion on this 44 piece set? It says HSS weird that it is cheaper than the aluminum ones. Same link as op but it’s the 44 piece set instead

Looks good to me if you don’t mind spending $39. I prefer the bigger sets like this one — 44 piece

Rule of thumb with this sort of thing seems to always be get the bigger set. Also, no matter how big your set, you may eventually run into something that your set does not cover. When that happens, you'd better have something like this

ChgImposs Metric & Imperial & US Screw Gauge SAE Whitworth 55 Degree & Metric 60 Degree & & US 60 Degree Thread Pitch Gauge for Industrial Measurement

Just yesterday I was looking at something. I pulled off an old Bailey hand plane number 35. It's been in my family for over 100 years. And this one metal rod is 12-20 on each end. I had to use my screw gauge to determine the tooth count and then I used my calipers to see how thick the rod was so I know it was a number 12. Obviously I also don't own a tap or die of that size, but I could special order them. I know where to get them. But I had to go old school to get the measurements.

Want to deal with some "wacky" screw threads? Start working on firearms and you will find out what I mean……… Last year I mounted a red dot and needed a 6-48 screw. :gunfire:

BTW! You can’t go wrong with the "tried and true" screw thread gauge.…… A must have tool!

Yeah I decided to **** it up and I went ahead and ordered a set of grace screwdrivers not the gun kit, but the one meant for screws size specifically for screw heads 2 through 14

Grace USA - Wood Screw Screwdriver 7 Piece Set - SDWS7 - Gunsmithing - Screwdrivers - 7 piece - Gunsmith Tools & Accessories
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LFHIAAY?tag=atomicindus08-20

I considered the gun set but I remove address so rarely. But when I do I always think I should buy it.

What's that I ordered? It's really for people who work on Old furniture.

I used a magnifier to make sure I was getting a 12-20 right. I can't even imagine 48.

I was looking for the 1/2-28 for my oil burner nozzle, but all I find was gunsmith related taps and dies. I think they make gunsmithing screws and alike different odd ball size for some reason.

the cheapo set I bought also has a 44 piece set for 30$ w/a better case than OPs. I have a feeling the standoffs themselves are sourced from the same place but maybe OP's has better laser labels.

I found out that the hex bits for universal screw drivers come hollow ground & two hex sizes. The mechanical impact driver comes w/big bits too.

I think the cased thread checkers may come in handier than ones attached to a card. I had a stud on a differential in the car i need to check size to get a jam nut to remove said stud. I have the thread checkers that are attached together by a wire rope. It worked but a pain to reach up onto that stud and swing the whole batch checking the tread. A loose individual checker would have been ideal. I didn't want to cut my wire rope, as soon as i do I'll only have half of them left ;).

And that's why I bought a cased version. Not that it didn't work. It was just kind of annoying. Sure, took up less space though

I agree. I bought SAE and Metric on the cable, I hated it. Sold it, then bought the ones on the plastic card. I do like it but as Aileron and others stated kind of hard to bring the tray in a confined space.

The thought of having two different types of thread checkers in my arsenal....

Thanks, after making three trips to Menards last weekend, I'm the perfect customer for one of these. I've only seen the loops and yardstick style, the individual pieces are nice when there's a mounted stud/hole inside an engine bay.

This one was offering a 20% off coupon earlier today, which dropped the price to about $23 for a 44 piece set in steel in a box. I bought one to complement the one on a cable that I already have:

Comfylichi Thread Checker, Nut and Bolt Thread Checker, Bolt Size and Thread Gauge, 44 Individual Bolt and Nut Identifier Gauge (23 Standard & 21 Metric) Especially for Size Check in Tight Spaces
