While that is great and jam jars are a way to go this is a place to find something in between, its hard to beat a common set of bolt bins. Some version of this.

Stay away from glass containers because they WILL end up getting dropped...

Far better is to go get a set of the small plastic bins from (anywhere) as the are:

Rectangular (takes less space, are more efficient)
Can be stacked
can be racked
Easily refilled, or items picked out of them
have pockets for labels

If those are too large, get the Akro bin sets; those come in a variety of different sized bins, or even several different sizes in one box.

If you still need "jars" you can get rectangular plastic "jars" with food in them in about 1 quart size, and reuse. these come filled with nuts, candy, trail mix, you name it.

I use empty coffee cans when I get done with them. plastic or metal and it has a lid. drop-proof, durable, and I get it for free after I drink the coffee

I use plastic boxes in my Lista cabinet drawers. We do this a lot for our customers and they really like the organization.

I have the drawer for the empty hole, but I am missing the bottom two (that I plated over).

Don't care for the 'bolt bin' style- limits the quantity much more than drawers.

I have all mine in Lawson drawers. I like that they come out of the cabinet and be taken with me if I need too.

In theory... I have about the same amount of durham/lawson drawers that you do, and none of mine are conducive to being toted around. each drawer has to weigh about 70 lbs!

As soon as I can get the deal I need on a bunch of lista or vidmar cabinets all my durham drawer cabinets will be for sale.

I pulled the drawers out of the standard cheapy cabinets we all have bought over the years and put them in my Lista cabinet. Not as elegant as Joe's solution, but for now it works for me. I have 6 drawers (2'x2' internal dimensions) of my big cabinet full of nuts, bolts, screws, washers, nails, etc., etc.

I also have the small, four drawer 1'x1' Griot's Garage nut/bolt/screw/misc collection and organizer (similar to Lawson storage shown previously above). Christmas gift from SWMBO. Use it all the time.

I like the drawers, I like Andys setup. For me its about convenience and seeing, I am a daily user then some, dont feel like opening and like to see at a glance when stock runs low.

I don't have a pic, but I have a document cabinet very similar to this ^^^. It is the traditional 30 drawer cabinet with drawers 9" wide by 15" deep and 3.5" high (allows standard 8 1/2 X 11" forms, as well as 8 1/2 X 14" "legal size"). I used 1" boards slotted on a radial arm saw to add dividers every 2" or so. I made the dividers from old road signs (legally obtained back before recycling came into vogue). Add a Brother labeler and you have a really nice setup. :)

Edit: Okay, I did find a couple of pics:

My mom is a librarian, I am hoping one day soon I can take home a card catalog cabinet or two. The ones they have are really nice, old wooden ones. They would look great in my shop :D

Oh, trust me, the are heavy. I moved my whole garage, including the Lawson cabinets last year because our town was under threat of being flooded. It was a real B***H.

We go through a lot of lunch meat at our house. I re-use these packaged deli meat containers from the grocery:

They are non-breakable, have a lid, stackable, and you can see what's inside.

Someday I'm going to build a couple of shelves to hold them all.

I bought some bins and built this cabinet to hang on the wall. The first picture is of it on the wall, the second picture is when I was building it and was trying out the shelves. (sorry for the crappy cell phone pictures!)
