In the market for a nice pair of HD linesman - type pliers with a heavy duty cutter.

NWS:

Klein:

Both seem to get positive reviews. I have looked at Klein pliers at Home Depot (although not this exact model) and imo they look like Channellocks. Not saying that in a bad way, own a bunch of Channelocks myself. But almost $40? They are considerably more expensive than NWS. These are the basic plastic grip model NWS combination pliers in the biggest size, 225mm none of the colorful ergo handles for me. I would have to get either pair shipped. Cutting hardened steel is an important ability. And a somewhat long lifespan would be ideal. Any input?

Unless you work as a rod buster, I'd pass on those Kleins. They really don't like cutting hardened steel. The cutting edge will chip before you know it. Klein does make a pair if lineman's that are rated to cut hardened steel. They have red handles.

These have outlasted every pair of linesman's I've ever used in the last 10 years and they get used daily. They are not cheap. I also own a couple pair of Knipex, I picked up cheap, but haven't really put them to work yet.

The ones the OP linked are the same 2000 series steel. No difference.

OP, a couple things to mention...the Kleins you mentioned are spring loaded in case you didnt notice. Just depends what you intend to use them for whether that will be beneficial or not.

And i think you will find that the kleins jaws open wider than the NWS. Better for bigger wire.

If you like the NWS, another option would be the new NWS rebadged Irwin linemans.
