I would have to say the new style, as it's more similar to Knipex, which I find to be ideal.

The big guards on the old style can be very uncomfortable in certain hand positions.

I onbly have the new ones, but I had thought I liked the looks of the old ones. The new ones are quite big compared to most pliers, didn't realize the old ones were even bigger.

I like the looks of the older style, but of what I have (Channellock, Ideal and Kleine, Knipex has my vote.
