NWS Made IRWIN Pliers

I saw that there is a line of IRWIN Pliers made by NWS but noticed that the combination pliers seem to be different than the self branded NWS models.

I have never seen a NWS combination plier that was in the Linesman design like that with serrated jaws/crimper behind the pivot, and fish tape puller. Usually the grips just start immediately (or with a much shorter serrated portion) like these:

Are these new models made exclusively for IRWIN? Id normally like to get the original NWS version as I like their plain dipped grips, but if they don't make these models I might pick one of these IRWIN models up.

I have the Irwin lineman with the crimper, the fantastico cutter, and the kiwi style pliers.. The grips are ehh.. I'd prefer the standard too, since the wide grips don't fit into the pouches I use at work. They don't make standard diagonal cutters in an 8" size either (Irwin). The compound cutting fantastico is nice, but you have ALOT of opening and closing your hands to do, for not a lot of cutting width. Meainng you work your hands a lot to just cut a small wire.. Don't get me wrong, the quality of the pliers is top notch.. They are the most smooth ,free flowing pliers I own. I wish there was an NWS retailer I could goto in person and see the line, but my Knipex stuff is amazing too and sold in Sears/Amazon.

The bottom pics were just a comparison to show how the IRWIN Branded pliers differed from those NWS self branded versions (those 2 plus the slightly smaller normal combination plier are the only NWS ones I know of).

I have a pair of the original NWS cutting pliers (not the high leverage versions). They are sweet. Nicer than my Klien Journeyman or Channelocks.

Really good brand that not many have heard of IMHO. Hope that Irwin doesnt rub off on them too much

I think that the Klein new style channel locks are NWS made as well.

Oh yeah, look at that. Seems that's their only kind of tool that is made by them though. And those seem to be the exact same product, just with Klein dipped grips.

Unless i'm mistaken, these IRWIN pliers actually seem to be entirely new models that aren't available in the standard NWS lineup.

Anyone know if those IRWIN plier models are actually available as normal NWS or if they truly made Linesman style pliers exclusively for IRWIN?

good American companies.

Agreed. If you want NWS just go buy them without the rebrand. Almost everything Irwin has made in the last 10 years is trash, and my opinion comes from actual use of their tools, which are piss poor.

This is the entire purpose of my thread, to find out if NWS makes these models themselves. From what i'm able to tell, the self branded NWS combination pliers are different designs then these, they don't appear to make a Linesman type combination like these 3.

The only way is to compare side to side but you gotta hand it to the Chinese, they make exact copies of everything from tools to the F-35.

That's all I use along with Chicago Latrobe. Irwin gets no business from me.

Looks like rubbermaid might have dictated that they wanted linesman pliers to compete against the klein / channelock / whatever, styles ?

I located a pair of NWS Combination pliers (1092-62-225), the shop owner said "NWS was recently (in the past few years) introduced to Taiwan, but the name is very unknown locally so they aren't selling very good."

So I then inpulsed bought the pliers in question for about $16 USD and noticed the part number didn't match the internet picture.

It looked more like the Irwin series! There is a crimper behind the pivot, that is the difference I noticed. but other than it it feels and looks like my other NWS.

NWS is made in Germany. They are sold under about a dozen different rebranded names, more so in the European market than here.. They make lineman pliers with and without the crimper under the Irwin label I believe..

I actually plan on buying the standard grip NWS lineman, diagonals and pump pliers. They are one of the few big brands I don't already own.

Yeah the other thing I just noticed is that the teeth pattern is different and there is not a fish-tape puller under the crimper. I will get some pictures up soon.

On the Irwin that has the crimper, (like I have) the fish tape puller is incorporated into the jaw/joint design. It's a different type of tape puller..

Instead of this type ( I have both of these, and many more)

They do make garbage cans and I agree CHINA copies everything and sells it back to the USA at Union prices.

Discovered one of many interesting items today, first of which is this NWS 1092-62-225 CombiBolt pliers:

What caught my attention was how different the pliers are from the stock photo: (image source: german-hand-tools)

Notice the serrations and crimper clearly highlighted. They are unlike anything I have seen.... except from Irwin

So in summary, did NWS recently update this particular pliers?

And here is the line-up so far! I am very happy I found these and the most jealousy-inducing part is that I paid about $16 USD (€15). Now I also spotted some VBW combination pliers at another shop for cheap... hmmm....

Next up will be a something for you PB Swiss fanatics....

After Irwins little stunt with our real Vise Grips they'll not get our nickel. Not one. We have some NWS and buy only the Grip-On locking pliers. I'd rather they get the profits. Both make fine tools and deserve the customers.

Every time someone says they only buy American, Rush Limbaugh sacrifices a kitten to Satan.

The criteria I use for buying tools are based on, you know, stuff like how good a tool it is. I guess if you can't tell the difference between a good tool and a bad one then which flag is on the packaging is as good a differentiator as any.

I always try to buy USA made 1st and it does mean something but... it gets very very old when posts add nothing at all. I judge a tool on its function first. Coo second. If it is a good tool and made in China so be it. But if they are equal I will pay more for the USA made option.
