The thing that boggles 
my mind is the damage to the truck bed. The damage to the drivers side exterior of the bed seems to be induced by the car wheel/suspension, the top of the bed rail that's pulled up by the cable and hook holding the car on... They're doing more in damage to the truck than it would have cost for a car dolly!
Oh, and of course the danger to the rest of the public trying to do it this way!

I dont think their terriably worried about the truck. In fact they might be meeting some one at the scrap yard and leaving both vehicles at the yard!

I saw 2 guys do that same thing once, plus they used a piece of rope to tow another car behind the truck.

Thats pretty tame actually. Ya'll need to see what's headed south to Mexico on any given day in South TX.

35 years ago, I sold a 1966 Chevelle 2 door post car and the guy drives into our farm with a pickup and a hay wagon.
- took my Dad a little doing, loading the car on-top the wagon, using the FEL of his Cockshut 1370 tractor (buyer never thought to bring ramps & a hay wagon has a high deck)
- pickup truck going down the road @ 40 mph and the hay wagon was swaying all-over-the-place...LOL...new owner had 20 miles in-tow, to get home
- my Mom made the idiot change the ownership, before he was allowed to take the Chevelle / with his hair-brained method

That the $170, per thousand that they're getting will fuel a weekend long binge. P A R R R T E E E!
Unless something has changed, the scrappers wouldn't take one that still had a fuel tank. So as much trouble as it is to get the fuel tank out of that truck, on the side of the road, they were probably expecting to drive it back home.
I wonder if the ticket will increase their insurance premiums?

Who is the patron saint of fools?
I live in Houston and daily see what others have referred to headed south on US59. Odd thing is, as bad as everything looks, I never hear or read about any of these fools causing a problem. The news media is quick to pounce on anyone that creates commotion due to stupid behavior (think road rage, ricer racing, etc.)
I saw a guy once towing a lowboy trailer that was so misloaded that there was negative tongue weight. It was so bad that every time he hit the brakes, the rear tires on his truck would attempt to lock. I don't even want to think how bad that trailer would sway at any measurable speed. Was loaded to the gills with "stuff for the border."
The irritating thing about these situations is for me, if I've got a trailer properly loaded with bags of concrete, somehow one of the bags in the middle of the stack will leak a single piece of aggregate that will find its way out onto the trailer deck, and finally to the road and promptly put a 2" bullseye in the windshield of a Bently Turbo R...
