I need to get a new scan tool. My Acton doesn't do Can bus and so I need to replace it. Either handheld or laptop interface is fine. Don't need pro quality as it won't be used regularly.
I am thinking +- $100.

Get the OTC 3109N.

Has live datastream, mode 6, readiness status and a lot of features for the price.
I use it for quick MIL scans before bringing out the big box scanner.

Has enhanced code features for models also.

A lot of infor in this little scanner.

I asked actron about a trade up program since they dropped offering upgrades for mine so They are dirt to me. A unit at wholesale would have been great. Blowing me off is not.

Do you have a smartphone? I use the Torque app ($10) and a ~$30 Bluetooth adapter off eBay.

Same with me. I spent the big $5 on Torque Pro though. Im running a Maf conversion on my daily using a ecu from an Automatic car, in my Manual trans equipped car. So im throwing like 8 ATX trans related codes. So like to check my codes every few days to make sure nothing new has popped up.

I use an ELM327 with FORscan, on my AU1 Fairmont ghia (1999 Australian FORD) They are a sort of hybrid OBD2/Ford custom coding. FORD Australian went full OBD2 in 2002,
The AU1 is pretty much a red headed step child in a lot of respects in terms of parts and electronics.

The ELM327 was $9au off Ebay in 2011 and FORScan is a freeware program, it also displays live data values such as engine temp, revs, throttle position etc. etc.
I don’t know how good the ELM327 software is as It wounldn’t read my FORD but would read the GEN3(CHEV) in the SS Holden Commodore and most imports

I only use the plug and cable from the ELM327 on my lap top, for $9.00 I thought what the hell.:3gears:
Hope it’s of some help
Cheers
Tony

I don't run a smartphone. I have access without the extra cost, plus I use the contractor flip phone which is the only phone I didn't break.
I can bluetooth to my desktop or laptop.
I also have a Kindle and a Ipod Touch so ios or android might be doable
