OBD scanner for laptop??

Can someone recommend a program for using my laptop as a scanner? This would include the OBD cable and software.

ebay has a lot of lower $$ items. obviously it doesn't compare to the amount of support you get with autotap or autoenginuity but both those run about $150-200

something like this can be had for $30, its the same thing as a pocket code reader.

I've always looked into that but never had the need to pull the trigger on one of those.

I've been using this for about 5 years. It's inexpensive, comes with free updates for life, and really performs many analytical functions, it's not just a code reader. A complete package which includes the cable and software, that will work on just about any OBD-2 vehicle made can be had for about $160, add another $80 if you need CAN support though. The software supports both the generic OBD 2 parameters as well as enhanced parameters for most makes.

so now i'm 100% officially looking to pick up a OBD scanner software since i just got a new laptop...

a lot of these software have more support on the domestic side, where as i primary play with imports. WRX, my g35, a4 ( dont expect much without vagcom) and a couple of honda's that come rolling by. thats pretty much the only cars i ever work on.

Autoenginuity is good because you can download their enhanced materials for specific makes, can save you money if that is all you work on.
