So I have a code reader, except all it does is read the code number, not the definition. It also doesn't have freeze frame capabilities, just reads the code number. My shop does have a SO Solus scan tool for us to use, but often times it's occupied. Canadian Tire has this obd2 tool on sale for $90, regular $200. Seems like a great deal, just looking to see if the experienced techs here can weigh in on some advice. Thanks!

I have the 3100, bought it for 60 bucks on clearance at menards. It's alright for reading codes but isn't too much more then that. It's nice for quick reads of CEL but sure won't replace a good scan tool. It gives some values and readings but not the full line up.

Ok thanks. So it doesn't do live data or freeze frame analysis?

If you have an android phone, have a look at Torque app. Just pair your phone with a cheap OBD2 bluetooth adapter. Works perfectly. Reads codes, allows you to look them up on the internet, live data, and data logging.
