I am looking to buy a scanner and narrowed it down to the bluedriver and actron cp9690 any suggestions on which would be a better buy

Between those two I would suggest the Actron. When I last researched the blue driver it had some limitations I was not impressed with. How many makes do you plan to work on? Autel has some much more capable offerings for similar cost. But your question is hard to answer without knowing what you want to accomplish with the tool. In general though on recent models especially CAN bus cars you will be fairly hobbled without a all modules scan tool.

The Bluedriver only does enhanced codes for Chevy, Ford, Chrysler, BMW, and I think Toyota. A month ago when I contacted Actron, they verified that they have not updated their unit's enhanced code software past 2013. Things to think about.

Thanks Treeman. I couldn't quite remember what limited it. Blue driver is pretty decent if you work on only those makes. But I think the DIY Autel 802 is the best value if you only work on one or two makes.

Especially German stuff...........they seem to masters at enhanced codes, manufactures specific codes that can only be read by some scanners.

802 is one that will read MB Sprinter. Plus the 802 does body, trans and ABS if you purchase the elite model all systems . There are multiple versions of the 802 the very low costs are vehicle model specific and you purchase model access.

My 802 connected to a HOnda gives the exact same factory scannner live data list.

Sorry I mainly am working on GM, Ford, Toyota, and Honda usually 2010 or later models I need something that is going to work well enough to get me through until I can get a bidirectional scanner

MD802 then start looking for a used Snap On with relatively new software. Nothing older than 16.2 but newer is better.

I really was all set to get the 9690. Then I blew money on the Foxwell NT510 instead to get bi-directional capability. It's an OK scanner in addition. Of those two I'd say get the Actron.

I just bought the bluedriver. I'm not a pro, but I work on my wife's car, my trucks and all the family stuff. So, jeep, ford, dodge and Chevy.

I was very impressed with. Lie driver for the price. It will actually talk to all body control modules, which is very helpful in dealing with the service 4wd error message that always seems to reappear after the n23 recall. I'm less than impressed with the 4wd system on the grand cherokee.

All in all, I really like blue driver.
