Hey guys, looking at picking up a OBDII tool for working on cars. Not looking for a $4k pro-grade machine, just something to allow me to diagnose and correct issues (engine/transmission/evap/program keys/TPMS)....

I was thinking of something like this: Autel Maxidas DS808(Upgraded Version of DS708) Automotive Diagnostic Tool OBD2 Scanner with Key Coding and Multi-language System (Same Function as MS906) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008XN7NUG/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Anyone use one of these? Seems to get good reviews...

Thanks!

I had the 708 but sold it. It was great for that time but it was slow to boot up and slow the read codes. Sold it and bought the Maxisys 906TS. The 808 is a great improvement over the 708 and you won't be disappointed.

For what your wanting to do (other than program keys) the Autel is the best bang for your buck. I would consider them a very high end DIY tool. For key programming your going to need factory level scan tools like the Ford IDS or GM Tech II. Neither one is particularly expensive but the subscription to the programming side can be.

Thanks for the input guys!

I was thinking of spending a little more for this model: Autel MaxiSys MS906 Automotive Diagnostic Scanner with Bi-Directional Control, Key Fob Programming, ECU Coding, ABS Bleeding Brake (Advanced Version of MaxiDAS DS708 DS808) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06VW6HM8C/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I just need help identifying the differences so I can make an informed decision. I mean, it’s just about $300 more for the MS906, so I want to be sore that it’s something I am going to make use of. It looks like the primary difference is that OBDI capability being added on. Not really a dealbreaker (I don’t work on many cars that old), but if there is other useful functionality built into the 906 that I’ll use then I’d likely go with it.

Thanks again for the help!

I have the MS906BT I bought a couple of months ago to replace an older (2008 model) OTC Genisys. I have used the MS906BT to program keys and key fobs, bi-directional control of solenoids and view live data and diagnose a few cars at my shop. It does everything I need and more. I have a part-time repair shop and have used it to repair many vehicles. I purchased mine through Advance Auto. I payed more than the online places, but you need to make sure you are buying from a U.S. seller (Amazon is not a U.S. seller either). The cheapest prices are from the out of country sellers and Autel will not support those machines in the U.S., you have to send it back to China for any repairs.
The BT version is different from the non-BT version in that the OBDII connection is Bluetooth and not hardwired. I can go anywhere around the car and still be connected to the vehicle. That comes in handy when closing vent valves or activating any solenoids etc...
