$5 wow. I paid something like $10-$15 for the smaller reader... using torque lite with mine. Haven't yet had a need for the paid version.

I can't recall all the details but some of the cheap knock offs of the ELM327 do not work well with some of the hardware or software.

"If you buy one of the cheap china OBD2 ELM327 bluetooth adapters from ebay / amazon, then make sure you have a good returns policy with the seller

Some of the best reliable OBD2 / OBD adapters are the Scantool.net adapter, the OBDKey, and PLX Devices, OBDLink, Bluetooth, ELM327 and other adapters are supported - search on google for them " From google play store torque app

I bought one of the cheap Bluetooth adapters from Amazon for $10 or so and use it with Torque Pro. It's some of the best money that I've spent.

Torque Pro on the Android and an ELM327. I leave mine plugged in to my truck all the time, when someone wants a code read, I grab the ELM327 and my phone and watch their amazement. It's a great product and app combination.

I have the BlueDriver from Lemur and at $100 it's been reliable. Scan codes, live data, free repair advice it was worth every penny. Just short of bidirectional maybe an upgrade is in the works.

I use mine very often, despite having a almost $400 dedicated code reader - the cheapy bluetooth adapter gets used more often.

I bought them as gift for my car friends - cant beat them.

I have several and have given away a few, keep them in all my cars. everyone has worked perfectly except the Bluetooth won't work with my iphone, but does with android just fine. wifi ones all work with every phone I've used them one. I use enginelink on the iphone. $5 is a good deal usually they are $10-$15...

I was always warned not to use the software that comes on those mini discs as they are loaded with viruses but for kicks I did download the dozen or so programs onto a laptop and they all work fine...

Yep, I use mine with Torque Pro. I think I paid $12 shipped.

Even if you're a strictly Apple person, you can use pretty much any old Android device.

Once you learn how to use the graphs and displays, it's a great way to drive around and see what your sensors and whatnot are doing.

Plus, it's really fun to see people's reactions when you plug this widget in, then read and reset codes with your phone. It's pure sorcery to most people.

Watching this thread...I've had a cheap ELM adapter & Torque (free) for a couple years but there might be some missing functionality I wouldn't even know about.

I use Torque Lite with a $6 reader and an android phone. Permanently in my car unless I need it elsewhere. It has paid for itself many times over.

I tried that myself, torque doesn't have the codecs to work with my car...01 Chrysler.

No, no inexpensive Android abs ones that I've heard of....no Android anything abs that I know of.

I have one I use on a regular bases. It does work. Just watch out for the OBD adapter some don't work. I use mine to clear the NOX code that occasionally pops up on my 2012 Ram diesel. I have used it on all of my Dodges and rams 97,01,10 and 12 with no problems.

Unfortunately they don't have a ABS check.

I have one of the larger Bluetooth ones, and bought a WiFi one for $10 or so a couple of months back. They're both generic ELM327 ones with the Chinese chips, but they work fine.

I just kept kicking the longer Bluetooth one when it was installed in my Jeep so the plastic shell around the OBD connector is broken, but it still works fine after about 2-3 years of use. Wifi one is only about 1" long and is far less intrusive.

I collected a number of these bluetooth dongles trying to find one that would work on my 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. All of them worked just fine on Toyota (even the $5 ones) but the Isuzu required some odball protocol to work. Once I figured that out, I ordered one that had that protocol programmed in and it worked fine. The Isuzu uses mostly GM electrical components, so the same may be true for other GM vehicles. Certainly this would be true for the Honda Passport since it is just a rebranded Isuzu.
