Anyone have any experience with one of these apps? Recomendations? Tried IO DII but it's super buggy. Just for home use to check and reset codes.

I was wondering about this tool. I know actron makes something called the U scan that's a bluetooth OBDII/CAN dongle that links to your phone. it's about $80 I think and comes with basic software to pull and erase codes. I think that there's also a $15 advanced software app that gives you additional functionality. If they could duplicate the functionality of the CP9580a in a cheaper dongle, I'd be for that. I have heard it's buggy though. If actron is activly working on this product, could be a real jem for the DIYer

Thing is eBay has these obdii wifi things ranging between $30-100 and some more than that. Most seam to be compatible with software in the App Store that can go up to around $50.

Torque is the app you want.
Reads codes
Erases codes
Looks up the code
Looks up the nearest parts source and price
Finds youtube vids.

Has a gps map system
Has a dash cam
Has settable alerts
$20 or less.

No bugs so far

Torque is only available for Android. Any similar for iOS?

Yeah I needs it for an iPhone. Interesting thing is I searched for Torque in the App store on the iPhone, and an app called Engine Link - OBD II Vehicle Monitoring came up. It's only $6, but has no reviews. It also seams to be able to pull and reset codes.

I've used Dash Command for a while now. It has some logging capabilities in addition to reading and clearing codes.

If you search for Torque it comes up with an app called Engine Link.

I've seen reviews that say it works well. I've been thinking of getting this and the Engine Link app.

Won't hurt to try for a total of less than $20 if it doesn't work.

As far as I know, the bluetooth devices will not work with an iPhone, because of the iPhone's proprietary bluetooth stack. To work with an iPhone, you need a WiFi, or dongle scanner.

The bluetooth devices work great on Android though.

This actually looks promising. $129 Bluetooth device with a free app. Any screen shots you can share of the app interface and it's usefulness?

No screens. The wife got me the wired version which has worked well for my for running CEL on my Ram. It has a pretty slick dashboard function too so if you hook it up while driving it shows tons of info on various stats ad readings. Engine load, rpm, voltage and such on all the various sensors and things. Was very helpful in troubleshooting a speed sensor issue I was having that's for sure. It also gives you a full description of the cel code and normal causes.

This is true!! I learned this the hard way after buying a blue tooth Elm 327. I ended up using it with my laptop but it fell off the hood of teh truck and didn't survive the fall...
