I need to pass emissions. And have read that there is software out there that allows a tech to change the thresholds on the computer so that it will not recognize any codes. Anyone know anything about this?

What type of shop would have this? 1998 olds silhouette. Typing on phone, details would take forever

Long story short is there software to do what you are asking? Probiably being there are several different programs out there to tune GM PCMs such as LS1 edit and so on, but I'm uncertain if that's the complete truth.

Also most of the folks that do this type of thing run speed shops tuning Camaros, Vettes, and so on and the modifications are done with the understanding that the vehicle is for "track use only". I imagine somebody would have a problem with this being it is most certainly illegal.

I will also say that when I had my PCM programmed for my S10 that it cost me about $350 back in the day and that seems to be the going rate. I know you needed a converter and such, but that is roughly the cost of the converter and these guys that do this type of tuning aren't usually found right down the street.

I think he's reffering to the Catalyst Efficiency below threshold. There is no such scanner can do that.

Technicians cannot change thresholds. We can watch mode 6 sometimes and see if the readiness for a particular system is close to completing. What code are you dealing with?

I dont know of any programs that'll work for a 98 olds. I think your best bet is to install some O2 simulators for the rear o2's.

If you're 1998 olds silhouette has a 3.4 V6 then HP Tuners has the software to do what you want to do.

Any tuner in you're area that uses Hp tuners software can do it for you especially any shop that specializes in tuning GM Vehicles.

For the licensing to tune you're vehicle it is 2 credits at @ $49.99 a credit per vehicle.

That is minus the additional software required to do the job.
But that is so you know if you got a price from a tuner in you're area from the start it is costing them $100 to tune you're vehicle.

I use that software personally you can disable & delete any emission system including error report that you're vehicle has Air, EGR, Cats, Evap ect..
Then when they plug in to you're DLC during inspection it will read and pass you like it never knew you had any of that because their computer isn't searching for what you're vehicle actually has it is only searching for DTC's which it will not have once tuned out & Readiness status which will state Unused on you're vehicle.

A 90 degree O2 "cheater" pipe from eBay for $20 will handle the cat efficiency code. If that's the one you need to disable. The rest of the codes are typically easy and cheap to just repair.

Yeah if you're looking to keep the SES light from going on because of a Cat efficiency code. I would just put an o2 sensor spacer in the exhaust pipe and back the o2 sensor out of the exhaust flow.
