Water level. Mine hasn't been out since the arrival of the spinning laser level. Now we use the laser all the time. Then again, for a low cost, single use solution, the water level might still be the way to go.

Mine actually has a reservoir at one end. You set it up somewhere & use the level of the water in the tube to mark level points around as needed. Easier to use than the type pictured.

What is an obsolete tool...??? Sounds like someone is making up fairy tales... Those tools will still do the job they were built to do.. I have tools that are over 100 years old; and never needed a battery replacement.... Thinken too many of You Guys have been bamboozeled with battery tools that are worthless when the replacement batteries become non-existent. Believe worthless is the word for some of that stuff..

That reminds me of the old school liquid manometers. need to get one of those!

Here's another analog meter: an Amprobe RS-1 clamp meter.
Great point is that it doesn't need batteries for amps and volts. it uses the power of the machine you're working on to operate it.

I know landscapers who still use water levels. They're faster to set up and you can see them in bright sunlight.

My nomination is Saltus style wrenches. Has a set for close to 15+ years and never once remember using them or finding a situation where they were the only solution to a problem.

I still use em, and am using them more and more...

I use mine all the time. I would like to find a few more of them as a matter of fact.

I actually prefer them over my powered drills in many applications. I know the powered drill "may" be the better tool, but I really, REALLY, enjoy using my old eggbeater drill!

I used a shoulder style two speed hand cranker to drive more than a box of torx deck screws when building the shed...

Well, the term "I" is neglecting the kids, who vied for being able to use it. It just sailed them in, and my youngest daughter handled it no problem.

You know, the hand crank and Yankee drivers actually work quite well when properly lubed... and they NEVER need charged.

Debating on what to do with my tach/dwell meter along with a timing light. Can't remember the last time they were used (probably on my '68 that was sold 13 years ago).

I actually misplaced mine & bought another one yesterday, because I have need for it. seriously, playing with aircooled VWs.

I am looking for another oddity, a choke tester, it put cold air out on 1 side, & hot on other.

my most obsolete tool, a dealer tool for pulling vent windows out of the frames & installing them back. it has rubber grip that hold glass tight and has a screw to pull or push the glass into the frame
