Obstruction using an open end wrench

In my experience when you have to apply a decent amount of torque to get the slotted bolt of you wind up rounding the slot. Even with these tools. Who uses slotted screws anymore?

Slotted screws are still ridiculously common.
Electrical work.
Ducting.
Plumbing fitting still routinely use them.
Furniture (even including some Ikea items)
Power tool fasteners.
Etc.

I still would like to see a pic of what we are dealing with, any A/M plug for that location that I have seen has been plenty long as to have clearance.
I have a Jims tool for that stock plug and have never had an issue.

True. Maybe that is where Harley got the idea but forgot about the torque factor.

This - I don't know how much torque is involved, but what about grinding a "slot" in a socket, such that the slot would give enough clearance as the socket is rotated, removed, reapplied, rotated, etc.

The slot would be similar to what one would find on an O2 socket like this:


but with a 12 point so there is more flexibility on positioning.

This was going to be my suggestion, as I have an entire set of snap-on sockets from 10-19mm just for this type of problem.

I was gonna suggest a Knipex pliers wrench, just not fully seated all the way down the flats. Glad you got it taken care of.

Well, the dude that put mine on must have used a tire impact gun. Agree i think the spec is 90 inch pounds.

If he got it on with an impact, access should be easy

I have found over the years that when I purchase a vehicle,or piece of equipment, some how there's a fitting or problem that entails special tool.Most techs drool and are proud of their tools.I pick their brains and ask their view.Most will share their knowledge and the tool to buy.I have a few tools,the vehicle is long gone.Any one need a two size socket for a 1978 T-Bird oil sending unit?Respect your tech and his knowledge
