I have these two odd adjustable wrenches.
I’ve never used them , but they are from my fathers
Tool collection. I’ve never seen these anywhere else
Anybody out there have these ?
They appear to be a matching set but have different
MFG stamping on them
Larger one:
AMERICAN WRENCH & Specialties CO. Chicago USA #10
Smaller:
HY-SPEED WRENCH CO. Chicago. USA No.7
You turn the knurled bar CW and the slide moves freely
Then turn it CC and it slightly tightens the jaw.

there were a lot of wrenches of this general style, though I haven't seen that particular one. they are good for larger hex nuts and square nuts, I keep one by my metal lathe because I make faceplates by welding disks to appropriate nuts, and when facing and machining I put them on a fixture - I use the wrench that is in the style of yours to loosen them up when I'm done. Mine is cast, yours looks machined.

Kewl. The Hy Speed Wrench Company was listed in the Oct 1921 issue of the "Automobile Trade Directory, A Condensed Catalog of the Automotive Industries".

I also found a reference here.

Interesting wrenches. I have a bunch of odd wrenches on the wall in my shop. If you want to sell yours, let me know.
