Missing 4 bits, Note the 7/16" and 1/2" slots.
The bits were missing when I got the set from Craiglist.
Do you think It came with those two slots with stubby bits in them?
All I can think of, but never saw a drill index like that.

I'd say so... short bits with turned-down 1/4" shank. I've got 5/16", 3/8" and 1/2" craftsman bits like that but not that index.

Not stubby, but, as mentioned above, the shanks for the 7/16 and 1/2 bits are turned down to 3/8 so they can be used in hand drills with 3/8 capacity chucks.

Yep, came with bits with either 1/4" or 3/8" shanks, for use in a hand drill.

I have that exact drill index, purchased new by me back in the 1980s. Barely used since then.

My set came with those slots empty originally. I'm quite confident there was nothing there.

That's crazy, it is marked 7/16" and 1/2 ".
I will have to count them and Compair to the cover.
The lower space will only fit a 1/4" shank.
