Today I found this old Phillips #3 screwdriver and it has a receptacle for a 3/8 drive ratchet, which I have never seen on a screwdriver, but I have seen it on 1/4" drive handle extensions. It also has an NSN: 5120-00-764-8102 which matches this as being a 6" #3 phillips, although the NSN info says it has soft grip but this one doesn't. Before the NSN it has CTC, which I assume is the manufacturer, but I have come up empty.
Does anybody know when this was made and who made it?

That method of mounting a 1/4" female drive is common on Plomb (and later Proto) 1/4" drive spinners. It could be a vendor-supplied item, or CTC could be "California Tool Company."

As near as I have been able to determine, "Century" was primarily a contract supplier for the military and government.
I could be mistaken, but my observations tell me they were akin to a Giller or a Granco or a JS Technologies - cranking out product for Uncle Sam.

Century / Century Tool Co. / (military contract supplier ?)

^ That's the entry for Century in my list. As you can see, I've not been able to figure out the where/when/what part.

Some examples of "Century" from Ebay searches:

Century 9-pc SAE nutdriver set (FSN 5120-542-5799)(Ebay 401657234729 01).jpgCentury 9-pc SAE nutdriver set (FSN 5120-542-5799)(Ebay 401657234729 04).jpgCentury Tool Co. 5120-00-679-4459 4-pc hex driver set (Ebay 192640105375 01).jpg

I see that Lesserstore found the same 4-pc hex driver set as I did some time ago. That same set was made for the government by a number of different companies.

^ not a clue on "J&H" - there aren't that may "J" manufacturers and I don't see any that are even close.
"CTC" on a government-contract tool is most likely Century Tool Company of Penndel, PA.

Found a CTC marked screwdriver this week. It is has a 6 flute translucent yellow handle with a once-plated round shank and is 12.1 inches overall length. The only marking is "CTC".

Since the "CTC" marking seems to match the "CTC" on a screwdriver that Lesserstore found in post #1 that had an NSN marking I'm guessing this screwdriver was made by the same company that made that one. And, though the drivers in the ebay listing that Lesserstore linked to are no longer viewable through that link, it looks like he was able to connect his 5120-00-764-8102 to drivers that were made by Century Tool Co.?

Also, the CTC marking on the one I just found matches the CTC on the ebay drivers that also said "J&H".

So... I'm assuming my screwdriver was made by Century Tool Co. and also could have had a connection to J&H. At least that is my best guess.

You have an FSN on yours, the precursor to the NSN, used from 1955-74. NSNs are basically FSNs with a country code added, like mine has -00- which is the code for the US.

BTW the other CC for the US is 01 and NSNs with that one were assigned beginning in '74 or '75, the former being the year NSNs came into being.
