This showed up on my front porch addressed to me and I don't know the sender and why it was addressed to me. I think my my brother may be behind it but have not been able to get a hold of him yet to confirm. I have never seen a pipe cutter like this so Im guessing its for cutting and notch a certain size pipe but that's my guess. Anyone know anything about it?

My guess is its used to cut a certain sized pipe for fitting onto another pipe at a 90 angle prior to welding. That is the shape one would need to do so.

It's French.
It's a normal tubing cutter for them, nothing special. That's why the Germans were able to roll them on a long weekend.

For doing "T" Intersections......http://www.google.com/patents/US3070885

But that means that the cutting wheel would be size specific to a certain diameter pipe/tube. Correct?

So, why all the adjustment?

The cutting wheel can be changed. Look at the large clearance in the adjusting ram yoke, which will accommodate a much larger diameter cutter wheel. The adjusting ram has a long travel so it can use the larger wheels and also to withdraw the cutter far enough to clear the pipe when starting the cut.

The cutter frame is a common tubing cutter frame which would be used for much larger tubing than the wobble wheels would work properly on.

Well ... Cut some pipe !

:) Tried and get cut marks that look like a waveform for three-phase. Going to have to figure out what size pipe the cutter is made for.

Wasn't my brother that had it shipped to me so I have know idea why it was shipped to me. Looks like I'm going to have to write a letter to send to the return address and ask who and why it was sent to me.

Hard to tell from pics, but to me it looks 1:1. :dunno:

Yeah, just measure the diameter of the cutter, and find the closest pipe size and test it on that. Have you checked the cutter blade to see if a size is marked in imperial or metric dimensions?

Well found out why it showed up on my porch a eBay seller screwed up and mixed up packages. I bought several old hand braces a while ago and never got em tried contacting seller several times ended up opening claim and got my money back. Well yesterday I got a message from a eBay member saying he got my hand braces and he was suppose to get a pipe cutter. Well checked it out he only paid 1.25 plus 3.05 shipping he got this thing cheap. I think we both agreed to swap:) I rather have the hand braces, I might make offer to buy this pipe cutter too just to have it, its a neat pipe cutter.

There are markings show a 40 can't read the rest. I'm not taking it apart cause its not mine to take apart.

He only paid $1.25 plus cheap shipping for that! I can understand no one knowing to look for it, but that pipe cutter would probably cost at least the equivalent of $100 new. I wonder if there's a source for the other cutter sizes?
