Last evening I was sorting and cleaning some tools I have recently purchased and found that one of the 3/8" drive retchets is magnetized. It will pick up a 10 or 11mm standard length socket. The retaining ball in the drive head is good, so they weren't trying to keep the sockets on.

My question is why would someone do this? It doesn't hurt anything, but thought some of you might have a guess as to "WHY?" .

It's hard to tell from the picture what type of ratchet it is, once we establish what type of ratchet it is we can speculate from there.

A lot of tools are stored on magnetic strips. When they are left on for a while they become magnetized.

Most of the trucks keep ratchets and accessories on these rails so quite a few are magnetized when you buy them.
