odd snap on wrench

Hi guys, I know a picture would be the best thing for me to post.... but, in the meantime, I have a snap on oex58 ( 1 13/16) wrench. It does not have the "chrome" finish. The entire handle is round. (it's a 12pt combo wrench). The wrench is 27 1/2 inches long verses the standard 23 15/32 in wrench. I can't find it listed in the snap on catoluge. It weighs around 7 pounds. It's not the "black" finish used for the industrial snap ons. I'm wondering if this was used for aircraft of military?? Anyways, would love anyones input. cheers, bird

No, "OEX" denotes a standard combo wrench.

I've seen a few like the OP is talking about before, though the current offering from Snappy is just like all the smaller wrenches with a rectangular beam.

Wright has some similar too. Check out page 79 of Wrights PDF.

Lets take a 5/8" for example (OEX20B).

OEX20 is standard length, but OEX200 is short. These can be either Snap-on or Blue Point as both used the same part number for a while. Then came the "A" revision as OEX20A (someone will correct me with the proper dates) which showed up sometime in the eighties. After that the "B" revision showed up in the 1990's. The "A" and "B" are about the same wrench with different stamping. The differences may go much deeper with alloys, forging techniques, ect, but I don't have any knowledge of that. I have noticed differences between the lengths of OEX--'s and OEX--A's as well as thicker box ends and beams on the later wrenches.

That said, Snap-on did not offer wrenches until 1948. Before that, wrenches sold off the Snap-on truck were Blue Points as far as I know.

Most of the striking wrenches I've come across have a part number "DX--" or "HX--".

My knowledge is still pretty limited. No doubt there is probably someone on here who can tell you more.

Oh, man, now I'm really confused!!! I have a set of snap ons that I thought were the same size, regardless of the "a" "b" or lack thereof.
I have oex 58, 42, 40, 28, 26,24, 22, 20, 18, 16 and 12.
I have what I thought was within the same set: "oex...b": 52, 36, 32, 30, 16, 14, 11, 10, 8.
HMMMM.... HELP!!! I'm completely confused now! cheers, bird
