Odd wrench ID

As I sort thorough things in the never ending reorg of the boxes. I cam accross some wrenches. I could not tell you where they come from. My dad was a believer in if some one offers you something say thank you and carry on. we have has these things for years. they are not torx and they are no allen. they look like little gears any ideas? I tried to draw out what I was talking about.

Not sockets they are like allen wrenches. My wife said she remembers them being in her late fathers tools.

spline wrenches. I have had a set for 35 years. used one a few years ago on an antique radio tuner

Wonder what all uses they had. Her father was a front end mechanic. My dad was been a fire truck mechanic since the early 70's when he retired from the navy. I have never even seen an application for them on a fire apparatus.
