I was at sears today looking through the clearance section and happened upon this torque wrench. It is an older US made one, and the price was right, so it followed me home. When I got home, or at least the parking lot, I checked it over. It is graduated from 10-75 lbft, but it has a 1/2" drive head on it. There is no listing in the sheet that came with it for this configuration, and I have never seen one before.

My best guess is it was a warranty piece and they just threw a 1/2" rebuild kit in it. I'm not particularly bothered by this, but in my mind it raises a few questions. Why would someone change the drive size on this? Is there any real use for it set up like this? In this torque range I would be inclined to use 3/8. What do you guys think?

It's anyone's guess. It could have been a quality control goof at the factory. It happens.

It should work just fine. Maybe just a bit more "clunky" using smaller size sockets.
