Ode to the spring loaded center punch

So,

I had to buy some tooling the other day, and feeling "in the Christmas spirit" I decided to splurge and buy myself a spring loaded center punch.

Over the last week, I ended up using it a couple of dozen times marking holes to drill in cast iron, aluminum and steel and now I'm wondering how I made it to 49 without having one of these in my toolbox. Honestly!

Funny how you can go along forever without a tool and once you try it you know you'll never be without one again.

I have a few sizes, but I use the Starrett 18A most often.

They're good for making a large piece of tempered glass into a bunch of small pieces of tempered glass.

HAR! There's a huge piece of tempered glass at work that I thought I might make into several smaller pieces of glass for projects. A quick search for "how to cut tempered glass" cured me of that idea!

Yes,they make a good emergency rescue tool and most EMT and Fire Departments carry them just for that purpose.They are also great for what they were built for.

You would think it would be common for everyone to keep one in the glove box and door pocket. Nowhere near enough people know about getting in or out of a car with one of these things. The tool companies should market them in car mags/rags and even put monograms on them so they can become used as gifts for car guys.
