Ok....wouldn't be the first time I bought tool before I knew how to use them.

So...how do I use these things?

I use those same pliers everyday.

the hole in the top is for pushing down fitting into hosing. The side and top clasps do the same thing. They are just there to tighten the clamp.

You can also use a set of end cutting pliers to get the job done. Those are also great for removing the Oetikers!

I searched the archives for Oetiker clamps and found this thread (among others). What's the benefit to these types of clamps. I see them on German cars. Besides being a pain in the ***, how are they different then the old school stainless steel US types?

I was corrected by a mechanic today that claims the oetiker-type clamp is not a German design but a Swiss design :)

Maybe it was a swiss dude living in Germany. Oetiker is German all the way.
