Gonna be doing wiring this next week. What outlets do you wish you had?

My planned outlets include normal wall outlets at just over 4 ft off the floor. Outlets for both jackshaft and conventional garage door openers. Ceiling outlets (3) for future cord/light reels. Oh and a 220 drop where I plan to put a lift eventually.

What other odd placed outlets, speaking specifically electrical, do you wish you had

Welder, air compressor, dust collector and handy charging station multi-strip depending on what equipment you have and plan to add.

I'll actually have 4 separate outlets for my welder should have mentioned that. Should be able to get to every inch of my shop with the welder.

I have half switched half hot outlets 10 ft. off the ground for my neon and back lit signs, but if you're not into that sort of thing, it won't matter.

@coljar. Actually some one brought that up. While I currently have none sure would be cool to have some. So added that. Probably 4 switched one on each wall and 4 hot. Bout 10 ft up seems right

I looked around at my framing and realized how much "space" there is up on the walls. I want to have some shelves all around. One app is bringing in my tractor and boat batteries to keep them above freezing and keep them on battery minders. So I put a set of outlets around the perimeter 12" down from the ceiling.

Also potentially could be used for "cool stuff" like vintage clocks and neon or illuminated wall-art.

I also have a "media shelf" over one walk-door for stereo power and the wifi router found its home there too.

I did buy an electrical cord-reel for ceiling mounting to access most of the "work area" not occupied by machines, so that may get a ceiling outlet or utilize one of the upper-wall outlets, not 100% sure at this point.

Charging outlet near golf cart parking place. I have so many small engines that have batteries! Either an out of the way spot for a bank charger for unmounted batteries. Or a wired pallet rack for equipment mounted batteries.

A ceiling mounted outlet for air filter for sawdust, etc. Do you pressure wash oily stuff as far from garage as a cord will reach? ( scratch that if you use gasoline pressure washers.)

How about building a Shack for lawnmowers and gasoline storage near the garage? It needs power.

Put lots of outlets over your workbench. I mean lots. I have 6 duplex outlets over my 8 foot bench. 5 are all on one circuit. That way I can leave all manner of battery chargers, power supplies, dremel tools and even high speed grinders all plugged in. The last (duplex) outlet is a different colour and has 2 separate circuits for those high power devices.

X2 on an outlet close to the door, I don't like extensions cords across the floor if I need to use a battery charger outside the shop etc.

I agree as well.

What I have been doing in my garage and basement is removing the single light switch at the door and replacing it with one of the light switch/receptacle parts that fit into the same single gang box, giving me both a light switch and an outlet.

All of my light switches have neutral wires in their boxes, so I can do this. My wife was curious why I did this, and I told her you can never have too many receptacles. She thought having an outlet right at the switch was a waste of time.

Well, until she wanted to run the vacuum cleaner down in the basement. She can now just plug the vacuum into the one receptacle at the door and the vacuum can now reach both sides of the basement without having to stop, unplug it, and re-plug it in somewhere else.

I also use these extra receptacles for plugging in rechargeable battery packs and stuff like that.

Don't forget that all 120V outlets in a garage or unfinished basement need to be GFCI protected -- and for some of the placement suggestions in this thread, that the GFCI needs to be readily accessible.
