I've been really unimpressed with the newer Crescent brand wrenches. The Western Forge and Klein made wrenches are better, IMO. The newer Crescent wrenches I've handled had loose lower jaws.

There are also very nice Spanish adjustable wrenches.

sure there are numerous options from Klein, NWS, Knipex, Channellock, and probably a 1/2 dozen other EU brands... worse case, made in Spain, or some former Eastern Bloc country... but at least it's not from the Chicoms.. and send a message to the outsourcers when they see their sales drop.

This was the case with Keen shoes recently here in Oregon... they just recently now announced that they're going to build a factory in the US again and try to re-gain the lost market when they went to China.

The Gray tools adjustable is made in Taiwan by proxene, as far as quality goes they are one the finest makers of adjustables today.

Hmmmmm........... just bought a Crescent 8''. Black oxide. Supply house's pegboard had all the sizes. My new one is USA. I would assume all the others on the hooks are the same.

Good call!

I'd never heard of Proxene, but I just checked their website & there's little doubt... How did you learn that? Did you just recognize the wrenches?

I picked up the Channellock 8WCB 8" adjustable wrench (Spain) from HD (from the Hot Deal Index) and cut the cheesy grip off it. Is it just me or does a "crescent" wrench look better without a grip?

I have an older Japanese made "New Lobster" with that same logo. Pretty nice and it's vintage.

Was going to say that myself, I did not realise they were still american made as they sure arent like the ever popular old ones.

my two that I have pictured in the thread above are fine baring the fact that they tend to want to rust if I don't apply a light coat of oil on them..

Yes i recognized the shape of the wrenches, i own several re-branded Proxene adjustables and can testify to their quality. in 10 years time they will become very sought after just the Lobster brand from Japan did.
