Hey all, I have a literal garage question today! LOL

while doing my reno, ditra, and tile... I noticed that the top header on my 16 ft garage door is bowed outward enough that light shines between the rubber seal and the door at the middle. I checked the door and it is dead straight. The bow is definitely the header and it is about 1.5" in the middle slightly off center.

I'm replacing the doors after I get my grout done and am worrying if the header being warped (not sagging) is something I should worry about/address or if I should just shim the 2x4 framing out enough to compensate when I install my new outer weatherstrip and be happy with my 30 yr old attached garage.

Any advice?

I would re check your door. They usually get bowed inward from the strain of the opener, and seeing light is common... that could appear inversely as the header being bowed outward.

I suspect rechecking will yield different results...

Yeah, I checked with a string since my biggeststraightedge was only 9 ft. I even installed a heavy duty strut on the door to help stiffen it to see of it would help. Definitely the header.

Sorry, tried to take a shot of bow in header... just ended up dropping level on my noggin and dropping phone! :)

...and yes, that's a 150" projector screen above the door.

your house has taken a set to where it is going to be
work with what you have
if you are putting a new door anyway
shim it

I'd be more inclined to believe it's the trim board on the bottom of the header.
And instead of *********** the project- just re-do the weatherstripping that's running along the top, so it makes good contact with the door.

Don't think I've ever seen a "green" garage!
