Hello everyone, and Merry Christmas!

I am a new member, and thankful I have found this site. I have seen some amazing work on your shops/garages, and cannot wait till I can start mine. It is still getting cleared out by the previous owner, but I am purchasing a small steel building for my business. It is a shop/office combo with a heat/ac, well, septic and sprayed on insulation. I will be doing a massive remodel on it sometime in the future...but, I think I will pay it off first. I will be completely gutting it when I do though, and starting from scratch.

Today's question is what kind of offices do you guys have in your shop/garage? Not to sell the shop part of my building short, but I will need a decent office for my business. What kinds of things do you wish you would've done different, or not at all?

BTW, my company provides Data/Site services to earthwork contractors. Most of my business is design work for GPS, so I do spend a lot of time in front of a computer when I'm not on site. I have some small equipment now that I can't wait to get out of the cold and to work on in the shop. Thanks everyone!

Welcome Wynne this is a great place for ideas unfortunately not from me my office is very simple it's in the shop no walls but it saves on time. You can see my desk to the left in the photo. Looks like a great building and you must be in a State that needs a snow blower because I see one in a photo. Good Luck with your new place and Merry Christmas.

Looks decent. I think you have all the comforts...HVAC, lighting, internet, water & sewer, quiet...you're only missing the man-deco :) and a comfy chair.

Windows can be good and bad...on one hand, the nice view, daylight. On the other hand, staring out there instead of working.

Rohartman. Cool looking shop. Do you cover your desk? Just wondering how you keep it from getting dirty.

Wynnecontracting. Looks like a nice size shop. You gonna have the front part for your offices?

Mine is in a super location. All this has been remodeled but general locations are the same.

Thanks Rohartman, that looks like it works for you.

I live in western Nebraska. We got 8" of snow on Tuesday...not my snowblower, but I could have used it! Thanks for getting this thread going.

Yeah I will use the front for the office. Right now on the inside, it is just a stud wall separating the shop and office, but I'm hoping for something more functional in the future. I would like to come into the office and see a nice wrap around couch in a type of reception area, maybe a large window of some type to see into the shop, and offices, small kitchen area and bathroom off to the side.

Once I am finally in the shop, I will take a bunch of pics to show the inside. That day may come soon. We were supposed to close on 11/15/15, but hasn't happened just quite yet.

Mine is in a super location. All this has been remodeled but general locations are the same.

I built a mezzanine in my shop and put my office on it.

That would be pretty neat. I wish I had the height. I'm 10'2" to the lowest beams, with the ceiling at a max height of 12'.

...maybe in the future, I tear this down and put it up on a stem wall getting a 16' interior height...my wife would kill me I think.

I'm not too keen on the over-hang and huge windows on the front of the office. I would do exactly as you say, and catch myself just staring outside. South of the office we have a nice view of Chimney Rock, and farm fields galore. I would like to frame out the building to gain more space in the office area, and move that glass door (east side) to the south side.
