Anyone else get this when trying to check out:

United States Postal Service

This shipping method is currently unavailable. If you would like to ship using this shipping method, please contact us.

Pick it up at the store

And the items are small and not heavy......I also don't have an option of other shipping companies, so I'm not sure what I did wrong :(

Late to the party - order #100000167

I couldn't quite swing (or settle on) everything on my wish list so its a pretty small order, but I wanted to push through the "absolutely" items because of the occasion! :)

I got the same thing at first. Check that your postal code is correct in the billing and/or shipping address. For whatever reason the first digit was omitted from my preexisting (saved) information.

Your Order #100000166

I ordered some SK clearance box wrenches, extensions, a missing 8mm socket, some Wilde ring compressors, ring groove cleaners, ring expanders, flex sockets, pliers, flashlight bulbs and other goodies, including the official HJE screwdriver, #HJESD! Looking forward to getting my USA made tools and box art! Thanks to all who made this possible.

Order #100000175

Got some metric Wright Grip wrenches to fill out my set (9,16,18,21,22,24mm). Was considering ordering some more Wright stuff, but didn't want to blow the tool budget too badly. It isn't even halfway through the month yet...

Who knows?
Finally got my order in. Had to work late tonight.

Order number: 100000178.

Ordered a bunch of air hammer bits, a threading awl, a 100 pack of utility blades, a Wilde jimmy bar, and a few other things for myself. My wife got an assortment of scrub/utility brushes and a 10-1/2" cast iron frying pan (I better watch out! for herself.

Everything was US-made. Didn't have the need for $100 of SK or Wright this year; but I still managed to spend $98.93 to my neighbors paychecks. Better there than China.

Now, just need to get ready for SK Day!

Just wish I were close enough for store pick up, I'd love to visit Epsteins. My wife is dragging me on a cruise later this year and I hate cruising. I'll maybe leverage that into vacationing in K.C. Next year!

Ditto. I'm definitely gonna plan a trip where I can at least go through K.C. And go in there!

Have shipping costs gone up recently? Each of my last 3 orders with HJE was for $80-140 and shipping was around $20 each time. I just put a few items in my cart with a total cost of $40, and shipping was $21! The only "heavy" item was a 24oz ball pein hammer, which is lighter than several items I had in the previous orders. I think HJE is a great company and strongly recommend them, but I'm hesitant to pull the trigger on this cart.

Here's what I have in the cart in case anybody is interested.

http://www.harryepstein.com/index.php/metric-ignition-gauge-050-to-1mm.html
http://www.harryepstein.com/index.php/lighter-striker.html

Perhaps the new site calculates shipping differently? Wish I was close to the store so I could visit and pick things up in person.

I bet it is because our zip codes begin with zero "0". I mentioned it on my comments to HJE as well.

Shipping caused me to back out, unfortunately.

Guys it's not cheap to ship stuff.

Think of it this way also. Epsteins day is about supporting small business and American made companies and American jobs. Well by paying for shipping with USPS or UPS you're supporting a very good paying American job.

I fully understand but, it's still difficult to drop a few hundred dollars with any vendor and not get free shipping. Hell, I'd be ok with a flat fee of say $9.95 to offset costs once a year. :dunno:

It's important to remember that the shipping listed on the website is only an estimate based on the individual weights of the items in your order. The actual shipping will be based on the weight of the bundled package. HJE will only charge the actual cost of shipping once your order is packed. It is possible that the shipping will be close to what was quoted, but if it is less, then you will be charged less. HJE doesn't make any money on the shipping charges, that goes to the shipping company. Your cost is HJE's cost.

There's no such thing of a free dinner...:lol_hitti

There's no such thing as free shipping either.

Retailers that offer free shipping do so by raising their prices on all their items to cover the cost to the company for the shipping. It's also a way for them to make a profit off of the shipping without the customer seeing it.

Exactly.

I added up the cost of my Epstein's order on Amazon (what they even had), and even with the estimated $20 in shipping, it came out a little cheaper to buy through Epstein's, and that doesn't even include the promo items.

My shipping was $166.40
International shipping is never cheap, but since much of what I ordered I can't get here I have little choice, I prefer to support HJE rather than buy it all from Amazon, its better to do big orders than lots of small ones though.
Fact is shipping costs but people have gotten used to free shipping, even though its factored in and their still paying for it.

Now everyone expects free shipping.

There's no such thing as free shipping either.

I know, I just thought that the point needed to be driven home with a hammer. ;)
(made in USA, of course)

You were being too subtle.

I understand that it is blasphemy to say anything remotely critical of Epstein's here. However, I may live in a bubble, but I get decent prices and either free shipping or flat rate shipping for most of the things I order. Speaking of Hammers, I would reach for a US Made Trusty Cook Deadblow Hammer that I got at a discount and with free shipping over the recent 4th of July sale. :fawk::beer:
