Hey Everyone:
Sorry, we ended up getting busy with Beta Tools, since we had an advertisement going out (Tech Shop Magazine, June Issue) and needed to get that brand done.
https://issuu.com/babcox/docs/tech_shop__june_2014/1?e=0

As you can imagine, we will be closed tomorrow for the 4th, but reopen on Monday.

With Wilde, I will start on that next week... I may be able to upload the part numbers/prices to the system earlier (possibly today if I have everything).

Make sure to check out the site and let us know what you think, Kelsey, who is now in charge of maintaining the site has made some cool changes, mainly to the home page, where you can search for tools/accessories by image.

Please let me know what you think of the site. Any suggestions for it? Do the categories flow well (as far as where things are)? We took out the email sign up at the top left (yellow box) Slowly, but surely we are changing everything over to thumbnails that you can search for instead of text lists like Hammers>Ball Pein...

Finally, Taylor is out for the day

The site still needs some work.

It doesn't flow, for my style of thinking. I went there, cruised through a few things...... The Product pics versus the text and pricing are too tight with overlapping pieces. Also, the text on the top versus the bottom of the image, is backwards compared to what I am used to.

Also the search function/process...... I wanted to look at some Mid Depth Impact wobble Sockets, in a set........I tried a few different ways and only found frustration.

So, I left to come back and post here.....

Hey Rhyno:
Thanks for the feedback. You are wrong... The site needs LOTS of work! :lol_hitti

Can you explain what you mean for your style of thinking?

I can tell you right now that Kelsey is (and will be for the next few months) working on categorizing all the products and adding filters. For example, when you search "wrench," well, there are 8 THOUSAND results. So, she is filtering it by Brand, type, sparking/non-sparking, individual wrenches vs sets, finish.... A bunch of other filters are being added so that you can drill down much faster... Mind you, that is one "tool" (wrenches).

Regarding the pictures, I agree, so I changed one of the categories to make more sense... Take a look here:
NEW CATEGORY SAMPLE

Does this make more sense to you?

I tried searching "Mid Depth Impact wobble Sockets" and did not find anything either, so I tried:

Home > Search for "impact wobble"
We found 0 results matching your criteria.
Did you mean:
impact wobble (3094) ---Cant see, but wobble is struck out
impact wobble (56) ---Cant see, but impact is struck out.

This is obviously something we still need to work on.

Please continue to let us know what you think.

I don't know that I can truly explain my "style of thinking"..... it's kinda scary in here.....

But, I'd say that it is the way that I go about it,.... to search/hunt or problem solve.

Different Personality types different ways or paths......

After the initial search brings back results, Can I suggest to add an option to "refine results" or some type of "tree" with filtering "layers" that continue to refine?

It doesn't make more sense, but it does display in a better manner.

I believe that there needs to be more "distinction" between the title/description text and the next title/description text (distinction between the left and right).

Hopefully, my info and suggestions help .....

There's too much going on. The product pictures overwhelm the text, but most of the pictures don't tell you what the item is.
Tree type menus would be a big improvment
Drive tools:
-Screwdrivers
--Phillips
---ph3
Nutdrivers:
-Metric
--Size
Or something similar, so it's easy to browse and compare.

Regarding refinements, We totally agree. Kelsey is working on categorizing all the products first in the main categories, then she will sub categorize them, then do the search refinements. For example, now, when you search Wrenches, you get a LOT of refinement options. That was our experimental refinement. Like any other site, it is a living site, in that it is always being updated and changed around to make it better.

Somehow, the sample category for Air Grinders reverted back to the old style. I just fixed it again. This gives a lot more room between products. There are 3 columns for each page now.

On the home page, we have something similar to a tree type menu, but it is picture based. It has been recently redesigned. Have you seen it? We try to use generic item photos that are easy and quick to find.

After you click on one of the images, you should be able to get to the sub categories that have more specific images. We are getting there, but it is a slow process.

The main page is OK, but once you get past that it can become a hot mess. And I say that as a happy customer. Take the screwdrivers page, how do I find a regular Philips screwdriver from there?
The organization on a lot of this stuff doesn't seem well thought out.
On the wrench page under length you have long, short and stubby, and small. small length?
I see small wrenches and micro screwdrivers? And under finish you have black, bright& chrome. There should be 3 options, black industrial, sateen, polished chome.

OMG. You are right about the screwdrivers. I just checked that one and it is a mess that needs sorting. Until we get screwdrivers (among others) fixed, you would have to do a keyword search. for them, ie "philips screwdriver".

Kelsey has to update the filters for wrenches. Some of the filters that I created just don't make sense...

We are getting there!

Website down-known issue

Hi, the website JUST went down... I spoke with our host who knows about the issue. It appears to be a network wide issue, but they say it should be back up in a few minutes.

part numbers i think....

11-982
10-982

Right now, Armstrong is having trouble making these correctly. We have received one product in over 5 times 60 tooth and not 88 tooth. (11-982)

It doesn't show to be in stock or an expected time to be in stock on Armstrong website right now. I will try and call to see when they will have them available, but I want you to be aware that they are having manufacturing problems. (or they have it wrong on their website.)

Hello EVERYONE!

I just wanted to introduce myself in here. My name is Kelsey Wallace and I am the new Web Maintenance Specialist. I will be completely "renovating" the website in the next coming weeks. I will definitely count on everyone's criticism and feedback and I'm sure we will have some kind of promo on the Grand Revealing of the new website and all the cool features.

Can everyone do me a favor and let me know their favorite tool website (besides ours ;) ) based on user friendliness? ie. McMaster because they have thumbnails for better viewing.

This way I can get an idea of what style is working for our main audience.

Thank you all for the support and if you ever need anything I'm always on chat during normal business hours!

Welcome Kelsey

I would say the easiest site I prefer personally is MSC.
