Offset Tandem Garage?

I (and more importantly the wife) love where we live, but would like more shop/garage space. We are tightly constrained by lot shape (like a slice of pizza) and house placement (right at the pointy end). It makes access to a shop out back, or adding additional width to the front of the house an impossibility.

It would require much effort, but I think I could expand the garage footprint like this:

Any threads with anything similar? Any thoughts on this layout? I would want to minimize making it look "tacked on" from the exterior.

What does the entire lot look like? Slopes and adjoining property terrain? Any structures, hard-scape and landscaping. Mortgage survey?

Existing utility locations. Electric, gas or propane tank, sanitary sewer (Or septic tank and field), storm water runoff, telephone, cable water etc.

What is your zoning and zoning rules?
Setbacks, lot coverage restrictions, height limits, easements (Utility and other) etc.

Not sure what your architectural style is, but I'd try to find a way to do a single, angled wall paralleling the property line instead of the stepped design you drew. If it fits design-wise, it would maximize space and usability, IMHO.
