Offsite garage?

Buying another house for me is years away. I had a house with a very decent little garage. Actually, it had a 2 car garage, with a one car garage off to the side that I made a shop out of.

Here are a few pics of it and the progress of remodeling it.

What I started with, a dark, crappy space:

The problem was a nasty divorce, and it ended up wrecking my credit. I'm doing everything I can to fix it, but still a few years away from buying again.

Now, I live in New Orleans, and moving soon. Probably either Asheville, Atlanta, or Savannah. Probably Savannah.

While I'm renting, and then buying, I doubt even when buying that I can find a place with a decent garage space, especially in Savannah. Everything there is like 200 years old. They didn't need garages back then.

So what I was thinking, why not buy a cheap lot somewhere close by, but not too far away and then put a fence around it, and build a garage/shop/apartment there?

Just wondering if it's legal, and worried about thieves.

What do you guys think? Or have any better ideas?

But 'round here I know many folks that bought a lot outside of town, built a garage, 'n then their dream home,....

Havin' a Bigazzed garage 1st, gives ya cover while buildin' yer Dream home,...

why not rent a single stall storage unit? I know guys that do that, keep all their tools there, pull in to work, etc. I even see people running retail businesses out of storage units...nobody seems to complain, and it;s relatively inexpensive with good security.

That's what I have right now in New Orleans. I have a 10x30' with loads of **** in it. I just don't have power. And that's the problem, I need 220v.

Plus to get to something, I have to pull out my teardrop camper, and 3 motorcycles to get it.

The ol lady loves the idea of a shipping container home. Maybe I'll just build a garage, then her dream home. With cash, and build my credit at the same time.

I dunno.

As I recall, you don't have to be too far east of Savanna to be in the "country."
Build a big pole barn and hide a double wide mobile home in it.
