I have never seen one of these in person or in a pic or an ad anywhere. I didn't buy it (yet) but I an pick it up for $50. I flat ram out of money today after buying some sweet diebold base cabinets and another old 5- 1-2" vise. But this one is still available and only $50. If I knew more about it and what in the world I'd use it for, I may have made a trip to the ATM. But I have to do a little research first. Whatcha think?

Not seen one like that before, its a bit like a blacksmiths vice (or vise, depending on where you live) crossed with a combination vise.

Any chance of a closer picture showing the end of the bar that runs down to the ground as it looks like its got splines on the end of it.

Thats a cole vise, pipe wrench, google them and you will see why it is designed like that and I believe still available. 50 is a steal! That shaft in the end should be removable unless someone has weded it in, the head should also slide out of the brcket or rotate in it if you want.

Yes it looks like a corse splined axle shaft. Didn't see if it was removable. It would only go to the floor if mounted very low. Ill check them out In a few. It's really to awkward for anything i'd use it for but it's just too cool looking not to own.

Edit: just did a quick search and see them on evil bay for well over $100. They are being advertised as black smith foot vises. However I would see this one mounted on a piece of pipe maybe on the tail board of a pipeline welders truck. Also the examples online that I am seeing all, have an anvil on the,top behind the jaws. This one does not. It's just rounded. Unless everyone thinks I'm completely insane for not buying it, I think I might let it go. If I could flip it for $100 in a few days though, I may reconsider. I just blew my wad on other stuff today so I'd have to loan the money to myself until I could sell it.

I wouldnt put this in the category as an old Blacksmith post leg vise. The old post leg vises are forged not cast that way you can hammer on them without risk of breaking them. $50 IMO is too high.

I'm with the others and say that $50 is too high. There was an auction a while back with one of those vises and I passed on it. Didn't even stick around to see what it sold for. If you need a vise, it's worth $50. If your only goal was to buy and resell, I think you might be disappointed. My two cents.....
