As some of you may know a few weeks ago the allseeing vise gods smiled on me TWICE. In my quest for a BIG vise I have not had much luck until the last few weeks. First my obsession netted me a Columbian 206 m2 and I thought wow this is great until about a week later my new baby followed me home. In all of her Huge and heavy glory. And after letting her sit neglected in the corner of my very modest garage, I decided to get her off the floor jack that she has called home since I loaded her up from the scrap dumpster at work. If you guys (and ladies) have no idea of the behemoth that I speak of she is a Wilton 800s.

In foresight I decided to take her apart to lift her onto my bench to clean her up and re-lube her. Until I get the materials together to build her a proper home. As I stripped her down I was curious as to just how old the lady that I will be living with is. She is only 14, I know what your thinking and no there has not been any ****** misconduct. But this brings me to the question that I have should I leave her be or strip her down bare and repaint her????

I will post pics of her tommarow. There are pics of her in the vises thread though. Hmmmmm what to do what to do?

OK ok her she is the day that I brought her home, along with the Columbian that preceeded her by a week. And for the record I got them both for FREE.

Nice vises! Mind if I ask how much the Wilton set you back? There was one on CL locally a few months ago for $400, but I was too late:(

The Poster stated that they were Free..........so cost is nothing. He dumpster dove at work. He dives where the Big Vises swim.

Since I have never left any vise alone, I say just use it as is.

FREE?!?! :shocking: Wow, I wish I could find awesome vises like that for free. People around here are selling POS chinese vises for $75-100. That Wilton retails new for like $2700. YOU ****!:beer:

Who the hell would throw those perfectly good vises in the dumpster? Oh, wait - you must work for the Government right :)

congrats on the wilton score. that being said, its an absolute waste for a company to scrap a vice in as good a condition, as that one appears to be in.

Well the story goes that the Austrian plastics company that I work for took over a building that was just vacated by another company. The other company left alot of equipment. Myself and another maintenance guy got set up our new shop. In order to do this we had to "empty" the "old" stuff, soooo. Long story short I got the vises and some hand tools and he got the Bridgeport. I will post up some pics of the other stuff that followed me home later. In the meantime anybody want to buy the columbian??? It maybe sold locally though.

Hey now... don't go putting the Columbian up for sale!

I got the back end on the car done tonight, and I'll work on the front end tomorrow. I should be able to move the car again by weds night so I can make a hole in the garage for the vise.

It never sank in how big those Wilton 800's are until I saw one at one of our plants a while back. Awesome score. I'll double your money, plus pay shipping!

Lol she is home. The only reason that I will have for moving the Wilton is when I buy some land and build a real shop. I'm not trying to sell the columbian out from under you dwiggins. You have first dibbs on it, the only reason it would go to someone else is if somehow our deal doesn't workout.

Truly amazing what some companies do with completely serviceable equipment. The stuff that used to end up in our dumpsters paid for many casino trips for some of our divers:pimpflash Nice score:beer:
