On my furnace you pervs!

My Trane XV90 was acting up yesterday morning and I had the service guy come, he diagnosed the issue as being corroded gas orifices. White corrosion to be specific. Records indicate that they were at our place in March of 2018 for a similar issue, and I know that time the orifices were corroded as well. The tech said he suspects that the intake was taking in exhaust air from outside, but the intake and exhaust are 15' away on opposite walls of the house. Any thoughts?

The lower extension allows any foreign material to drop to the bottom and not enter the burner.

Another thought do you set back the furnace and what temp does it set back to. Furnaces do have a minimum temp of around 55*. Running a furnace at a lower is fine but burners and heat exchanger components sweat and shortens the life of the furnace.
