I may need to try the camera trick. I will have to see if I can borrow one since I don't have one. A friend has a deer cam. I will ask him.

Our cats are doing their job. They alerted us. But they are critter MONITORS. They can only let us know when there is a critter. They can't actually do anything about them. LOL Actually they have killed mice in the past and one used to kill birds before my wife rescued it from the wild. Not they stay inside and OUT of the garage as they would escape if allowed in there.

The garage is well sealed but I think it may have wondered in while the door was open. I doubt it's a rat. We really don't have any in this particular area. Could be any one of the other critters though. Could be a bird too but they are usually noisy all the time. This thing hasn't made any noise in a while. I am still leaning towards a mouse. I might try the deer cam though if my friend still has it.

I had one come into my shop, had it for about three days, came in while the overhead door was up and I was working. Heard some noise, saw it and tried to move it towards the door. No go. The third day, no noise, no skunk, seems he walked out the open door. No sign of him since. He did leave some calling cards though.

My friend's Dad has a small cabin / hunting cabin in Stuart's Draft, about 23 miles from here, and when they were remodeling the bathroom about 20 years ago, a skunk got in the bathroom and got behind the bathtub enclosure and hid quietly one night.

The next day, without knowing the skunk was behind there, the finished the drywall and essentially trapped the skunk in that tiny space.

A few days later the place started to smell like a skunk, then like a DEAD skunk.

A few weeks later after the stench was unbearable, the ripped out the bathtub to find the dead skunk that had sprayed everywhere, and was then dead and rotting.

They ended up ripping out the entire bathroom, the framing, the flooring, insulation, pipes, and the dirt below it, and put all new materials back in place.

Still, 20 years later.... on a hot summer day when the humidity is high, you can smell that poor skunk that died a sad stinky death in that little cabin in the woods.

If your skunk is there in the garage, be careful not to trap it and let it die. You'll regret it for decades.

Well I have seen no signs and no tracks and no luck with mouse traps yet so I am hoping it moved on the one day left the door open. There were no tracks going out the door either though so I don't know. I may have to do some cleaning over the long weekend and see what I can see.

Skunks also do not like pain. A Paint Ball Gun is a great motavator. I had a serious Skunk problem, they were everywhere and would challenge constantly. I got some orange fill and that way I could keep track of who came and who went. Works for cats/raccoons/opossum/stray dogs/etc.

Most urban critters do not like the smell of moth balls and you can toss them in various places. Just make sure you are not blocking their only exit.

I am not 100% certain, but I believe that a skunk won't spray if it can not raise its tail so a small live trap is an alternative. However, plan ahead on what you are going to do if you catch something. 22 caliber of high powered pellet gun are both effective at very short range.

While the pellet gun might be an option in a lot of places, Massachusetts has some REALLY prohibited gun laws, and that might not be quite legal.

It might be best to hire a pest control specialist

I had one one night at the cabin. Sitting by the fire saw something out of the corner of my eye, thought it was my neighborhood cat buddy coming to say Hi. I walked toward my truck and out from behind came this skunk. I didn't know whether to **** or git! I bolted for the cabin. Later that night I was awakened by that horrible stench, something pissed it off.

Someone or something must have got him, never saw him again.

I just thought. Did you have some of that skunky beer that Budweiser used to talk about in their ads?

Tomato juice always worked for me. I got sprayed several times when we were catching them.

I'm pretty sure you add vodka and a few other choice ingredients to the tomato juice to make the project more bearable. A second, third or fourth application may be necessary
